The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Saturday is the big, annual Cowley Corn Cookout. Gonna get in touch with the Rec and find out when the corn shucking starts and lend a hand. This event is HUGE - people come from all the surrounding communities - and many from out-of-state plan a visit home over this weekend - so the park is always busting at the seams. The guy who lives behind us has huge smokers/barbeques and he does a pig, a goat, lamb, and beef. He'll start cooking tomorrow, so I'll gain 10 pounds just living in this house. He gets those trailers (his grills/smokers are on trailers because he pulls them all over, setting up in parking lots, etc, like food trucks) and at 2 am when that delicious aroma drifts into my bedroom window I'm up and finding something to eat - anything - for the rest of the pre dawn hours!! Everyone brings salads and desserts and the town provides the meat, the drinks, the plates and such.....and cauldrons and cauldrons of sweet corn!

They have bouncy houses and water slides for the kids, sack races, horseshoe competitions, the pool is free that day, vollleyball games, and a dance at night to cap the day off - all provided by the Cowley Rec Department. There's a snow-cone vendor, and it always amazes me how many grownups stand in line for one of those! Cowley has 3 of these events each summer. We have the July 4th one hosted by Dave and Jennie, Cowley's Day, and the Cowley Corn Cookout.

I got my t-shirt the first year I helped out.....Cowley Country Club - It's a State of Mind....and I've worn that puppy out!

That sounds like a lot of fun -- just don't eat anything with mayo unless it is in a fridge :)

Yep $50 and 48 hours later I have an official record of my birth. Now to get a day off to tackle those DDS lines again

Happy Birth-Proof-Day!

Good morning and happy Friday!

Sour, your dinner for Chris sounds wonderful. If you have any left over after sending Chris his care package, may I have some?

Blooie, what a fun day you all are going to have up in Cowley! I can almost smell the smoked meats just from reading your post, mmmmm.

Congrats sunflour, you're for real now, lol! (But I'll still think of you as my alien friend)

Big news flash...after arguing with them for almost 2 months, the car insurance company has decided to (finally) pay out for our totaled car! We're headed off to Cheyenne to test drive a couple of SUV's and hopefully come home with one. Just think, I might soon be able to drive to the Post Office to the grocery store all by myself!! (DH has firm instructions that "my" car will not be used for any future crime fighting.)

You all have a good Friday!

Hi Debby - have fun with the car hunting, but maybe a "Batmobile" or tank would be a better bet, just in case DH decides he needs to risk life and limb again

Batmobile might be appropriate...several people in the community have been calling DH "Batman"

So there you go... Guess the least you can do is make whatever you get black, with tinted windows - might be the best you can do for the moment.

Good morning Sir Sour
