The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Hi Chris!

Going to be busy enough...my 16 yr old is working this morning so I'm going to be at home cleaning that spare room for my son. Seeing as how that whole "Jack Robinson" thing didn't work and I couldn't find any harem pants for a genie act, guess I'll have to do it the old fashioned way...elbow grease!

What have you been up to lately Chris?

It's just your accent maybe?

Not much going on down here. I got an incubator whilst in the UK and fired it up just to test a few eggs and give it a run. I think i had a couple of viable ones (opinions were divided, but mostly negative on the fertility of some) but then we had a 9 hour power cut yesterday, so i will see.

Also I got 4 meat bird chicks (1 week old now) just as an experiment, to see how long they will take to mature compared to the commercial operations that give them 24 hours light. I reckon that whatever happens, they have to be cheaper and better tasting than the commercial version. Time will tell.

Good morning, Debby (and everyone else)!

Do you have a busy day ahead?

I'll check out SF's entry right away!

Just checked - nice one SF

Good Morning Ken, thanks - hope others will enter , why don't you?
Just wondering, what time is it now where you live?

Debby, don't overdo and hurt your back - your son will not likely be as critical of the room's cleanliness as you are :) Just clear the boxes for a path to the bed.

Ken, sorry about the power outage - what a bummer, hope the hatch is not a loss.

Good morning, SF. I'm about as artistic as a poke in the eye, so I'll leave it others

It's just gone 3pm in this neck of the woods

Thanks, but at least I was only messing about really, not going for a full 24 batch. It will be interesting to see if anything comes of any of them, with such a long time without power. I've read that some seem to manage.

Chris, sorry about the power outage...you get those quite a bit, don't you? Is it possible to have some sort of battery back-up on an incubator? (I've never incubated and am not tech minded so maybe dumb question?) Be interesting to hear how those eggs turn out.

Good luck with your meat bird experiment!

I'll be careful, I want to enjoy his visit!

You're right, he won't mind a bit of mess. As long as he has a place to sleep and plenty to eat in the fridge, he'll be good

Thanks, Debby. The only way is solar / batteries and inverters and thats not in my budget right now. I did check with the Brinsea guys. It will kinda make incubating slightly more stressful than for others, thats for sure

Just looked out my window and a squirrel with a nut in it's mouth was going to try to hide it in my potted peach tree.

I have a fake owl in the pot - and it scared the "rodent" off...

Keep us posted! I've read others have outages and still end up with chicks, maybe you'll be one of those.

Time to get going, you all have a super Saturday!

I will, thanks Debby and have a good day!
