Earlier today I said I was getting a 'mincemeat' pie - wrong. I meant a 'mince' pie - apples, raisins, fruit, seasoned with I don't know what but good and only available seasonally. Many years ago as a surprise the Princess ordered a mincemeat pie for me from the Amish bakery. She got it, and all was good - then I cut it. It was meat in some sort of sweet sauce - not good.

Guess that came from the age old practice of covering the taste of rank, rotting meat with strong, sweet flavours - not an appetising idea in this day and age, I agree.
