The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

So today we have a company Christmas party to go to. I really dislike that sort of thing. About 200 people milling around and I'll only know maybe half dozen of them, trying to make small talk. Ugh. Anyone want to fill in for me?

Look at it this way, it will give you a chance to meet the others of your new community. Besides, you have the best small talk there is. Your just moved there from Florida. What an adventure and I'll bet they'd love to hear it. We get out of the situation, what we put in. Remember that positivity is contagious. :hugs

Chris, sorry about the confusion from the moving avatars...I get bored easily. Which is another thing that makes the small talk difficult, lol. There won't be a bar to prop up against at this shindig, the owners of the company are Morman and don't indulge (therefore, it's not provided). Makes me wonder, maybe everyone tosses back a few before going? Might be the answer for me, then I'll find that corner and take a nap.

Banty, I like your idea of chattering on about chickens, lol. Yeah, the minion confused a lot of people, had to change that one out pretty fast.

Hip flask?

I hate those things, and it seems with Ken's position in the Grand Lodge and his other Masonic activities those kinds of events are my only social life. Well, that and kids. We are always attending this dinner, that banquet, and this 3 or 4 day event or another. <sigh> I have no hearing in my left ear so every sound that comes in is bombarding the right ear all at once. And it seems like we are always sitting at a round banquet table. I have started just telling dinner partners at the beginning of the dinner that I am totally deaf on one side, so I'm not being rude if I don't respond - more than likely I didn't know I was being spoken to......and then I do my bobble head imitation for the rest of the night. Stuttering doesn't help much.....it's not bad anymore but if I get nervous it just comes back to bite me in the hiney. Makes me wish I could take a frilly little notepad with me and write down what I'm thinking like Dad encouraged me to do.

But we know you well, Debby! You'll slide right in there and do just great. Stand on a table holding a sign that says, "Does anyone like chickens?" and then stick with those folks for the remainder of the evening. If nobody likes chickens, then you don't need 'em anyway!

Ok, 2 great ideas! A hip flask and standing on a table with a chicken sign. Thanks everyone
