I've been having a real problem with BYC for the past few days. When i try and post, it tells me I've already posted (which i haven't) and then trying again results in a duplicate post 

How I deal with that problem is save your post. Leave the forum, to check to see if it posted. If not, paste and try again. It saves the double posts and your time if it didn't post. Hope that helps.

I take another shortcut. Lots of times when I get that "you've already submitted" dealyflopper, if I wait a few seconds down at the bottom will be a "1 new post" notification. Click on that and if your post is the one it shows, you're golden. <shrugs> Works most of the time.

LOL, I've wondered the same thing. But really it doesn't much matter. With you in Australia, Chris in Kenya, Kim (Yorkshire posts occasionally) in the UK, the rest of us scattered amongst various U.S. time zones...it's enough to give anyone a headache!
