The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Whoop Whoop I remember chicken folks having the maggot problem - hydrogen peroxide drove them out into the open - but they just kept coming & coming.

Hate them!!!

Seeing all those fish makes me miss mine - I used to keep tropical fish, but having a 16 month old who didn't sleep didn't leave much time for cleaning them out (I had quite a few tanks and bred a few). Gorgeous goldfish everyone!

I have a couple more bird photos to share. Our daughter desperately wanted to hold the older finches and we needed her small hand to extricate them from the box! They are so cute now they have a few feathers and their eyes are open, and they kept begging for food (which was even cuter). The parents only go in to feed the babies as it's very hot here so we'll have lots of opportunities to handle them.

I got a slightly better photo of Pinkie's little ones. You can see one little face amongst the fluff. Pinkie was not happy with me but at least she just growls at me and goes to the other end of the box, unlike Daffodil who, yesterday was hanging out of the box trying to work out how she could bite me!

whoop whoop, I do hope your cat makes it. Poor thing!

That first picture of your DD holding the finches is so sweet

I wasn't as soft hearted as my co-pond owners. I did nothing, and I mean nothing. We had a little waterfall and that served to keep most of the pond open all winter. Sometimes it would freeze deep and solid around the edges, except on the end where the waterfall was, but not once in the 6 years we had it did it ever freeze over. The fish overwintered fine, probably not happily but fine, and so did my water lilies, which bloomed every year. Dunno....I didn't do nuffin'.

That sure makes a pond seem low maintenance B, very interesting

Morning -All pics are super - just had to tell you was up with Beast all night - nothing worked and more maggots have hatched this morning YUK - cleaned him up again - I got something called 'corpse reviver' from my homeopath which she made for my mum - watered it down and gave it to him he has eaten two cat biccies this morning and drank on his own. Off to the vet now hope they can do something for him the maggots are horrible they must have laid eggs and re now hatching - never seen anything like it.

and thanks for all the support I really appreciate it

Hi everyone just thought I would update on Beast don't want to bore you all - he has microplasma - but vet thinks I caught it in time and giving the chicken's doxycycline helped he has given more but bigger dose. The maggots he has got rid off and said they laid in his dirty tail area but has washed him (poor beast). Vet doesn't know where he got it from, thinks as he is Aids positive and because he is older it has kicked in and depleted his immune system. He is back home with a drip, which is irritating him no end and I must just continue to do what we can for him and try andgetfood down him. So cooking up a cat food storm!

Good morning @whoop whoop glad to hear the vet was able to get the maggots off Beast. When one of my cats was sick and wouldn't eat his regular food, he would gobble down soft boiled egg and boiled, mashed chicken. The extra protein seemed to help a lot.

Hope Beast is better soon!
