We're just SW of Denver proper in Highlands Ranch, a huge planned development of big, cookie cutter houses with open space and rec centers. A great place for families but not my style. DD2 lives in SW Denver, so we don't really go into downtown that much. The 16th street mall is always fun, with funky restaurants and shopping. Haven't been to the NH museum though, we may have to do that.

But this trip we'll mostly stay home. The kids are in preschool so I can work in the mornings, then we are working on the yard, taking boxes to the recycling center, pitching broken toys, and all the other stuff the kids don't have time for. Catching up on a ton of laundry as well, plus sewing up holes in stuffed animals. ( Which is actually kind of fun)

I know where Highlands Ranch is! My parent's house was on the west side of Denver, close to Bow Mar. Mom used to work at an antique shop downtown, so that's why we used to get down there.

It sounds like you have plenty to keep you busy while you're there Friday but if you ever get a chance, you should check out the museum, it's worth a trip!
 
I can't win! After battling poultry mites for a month now (I'm hoping I've finally won this time round) I discovered grain mites in (and all over the bin it's stored in) the chick crumble we'd bought for our quail (as game bird feed is unheard of in my city). And I had it in our laundry. YUCK! It's now outside baking in the ridiculously hot sun and I have mopped the floor with neem to kill any left behind.

I am seriously melting. It is so hot and humid here today. I thought yesterday was bad. I'm not a big fan of summer - give me spring or autumn please! I wish it meant we were going to get some decent rain but I doubt that will be the case. They are promising showers tomorrow and the next day but I doubt it'll put enough water in our water tanks to flush the toilet an extra time!

Anyway, onto cuter things - I managed to get a cute photo of a baby bourke peeking out from under its Mummy. The other bit of fluff is the other baby's backside. I cannot believe how much poop two chicks have created in 5 days. I'm going to have to clean it a bit which is not going to impress Miss Pink one little bit. Pinkie was not happy at my intrusion (she never is) just to take a photo but she wasn't getting off her babies. I know they are looking after their babies very well. I fished one out the other day to show our daughter and it had a lovely full crop and looked fat and healthy. The baby finches are just gorgeous too. They are so trusting and it's adorable the way they all start begging as we are holding them and stroking them. I had to give their box a clean out due to the build up of poop but thankfully the parents had jammed so much straw in there it was just a case of peeling off the layer that was held together with poop.

When I moved from CA to NM, about 11 hours away, I put my 4 hens in a dog crate with shavings on the bottom. About every 2 hours, I'd put water and food in the crate and take the dogs for a walk. Then I'd take it out so stuff wouldn't spill. So that last 11 hour trip turned into 14 hours, but we made it.

I traveled from here to eastern South Dakota with 7 of 'em in an appliance box in the back of the van. Used a plastic, powdered iced container with a horizontal nipple in it for water and we attached that with a wire pulled through a small hole in the side of the box so it wouldn't sway with the movement of the car. Put some pine shavings down, and scattered food in there. Stopped to top off fuel in Sheridan, gassed up in Rapid City, then again in Chamberlain. Only issue we had was when one decided it was time for a cecal poop. This was at the end of November - not much chance of rolling the windows down. <sigh> In Rapid we stopped at McDonalds, where I bought the girls a Southwestern Chicken Salad. Our 12 hour trip took 12 hours.

Hey N F C it is my FIL who is already up there but I call him Dad. Yeah, it is good to know we have an end point and somewhere to send stuff if/when we need to.

Ditto on the small house, our current house is very small .. it is like a little brick oven at the moment

If hubby does get the job then he will already be up there and building a coop for the girls while they stay with me. Then, closer to move date, the girls will get shipped up to him. Unfortunately, with him starting a new job and me working full time also, one of us will not be able to make the 2,600km round trip with the gals and cats, so they will have to go through a pet mover. If he takes the car, which is kind of the plan, I will be flying up and while I will be allowed excess baggage, that probably does not include 5 chickens and 2 cats lol and I really need them gone before me so I can sell the current coop, get the house ready for new tenants etc.

Eeek, my head hurts … one day at a time! lol

J I hear ya regarding the heat .. as I type it is 89.5F [32C] humidity is not too bad at 50%. However, looking forward, Sunday they reckon it will get to 98.5F [37C]. No rain on the horizon either.

Pinkie and her babies are adorable!

Good morning!

It's going to be a long day here...DH has to be at the hospital by 6am for his foot surgery. I'm pretty sure this is going to be me by this afternoon...
 
J, how frustrating that must be with the mites and the heat. But it was so nice to see a photo of Miss Pink and her babies, very cute!
