Cute Valentine's Day card sunflour!

What an awful thing for your DH to do...coming home with roses, how dare he?

Hope everyone had a lovely Valentines. Lucky you getting roses, sunflour. Glad you are feeling better Blooie - poor you!

My two little waifs are doing ok. They are eating pretty well. I got up to feed them at 2.30am this morning then got up to start the day at 5.30am (as did our son!) so I'm a bit shattered. I never was very good at doing night time feeds with my two when they were babies. I'm an early to bed, early to rise kind of person, and I need at least 5 solid hours to feel half human.

Here is Luvy on the left and Valentine on the right. I'm glad I know that in a week they are going to look adorable, though they aren't quite as well covered with feathers compared to the first batch of babies. Their parents couldn't care less and are quite happy helping out with the fledglings.

I'm taking over feeding the Bourke babies tomorrow as they are 2 weeks old (perfect age to hand rear from) and one is starting to look a bit smaller than the other, so I'm slightly concerned.

J, the little finch babies are cute! How long will you have to hand feed them?

More Bourke baby pictures please! Can't get enough of those little guys.

I guess you're going to just about be a full time nanny before you get all these little ones going on their own.

Hope you can slip a nap or two into your day!

I do not cope well on broken sleep of any description and like a solid 8 hours.

I have, of course, raced outside to the gals at all hours of the night if I hear noises but if I had to get up multiple times during the night on multiple days in a row I would not be a happy camper

Your littlies are just soooo cute!

DH had his 1 week follow up from his foot surgery and all's going according to plan. Before they re-wrapped it, he snapped a picture with his phone and showed it to me...ouch! Lots of sutures and some nasty bits. Now he's given his foot a name...Frankenfoot, lol. Pretty appropriate, I'll say!

Frankenfoot - love it! Poor man.

I'm about 90% sure these two photos are of two different babies. They look so alike and they were taken at two different feedings today. They are so cute and snuggly. They haven't eaten a huge amount yet but they seem to like the formula. The one that's slightly smaller ate quite a bit the first time I offered it so I think it's been going a bit hungry. I got up at 4am to feed the finches but one of them acted like I was a predator invading their nest, hissing and trying to peck me! And neither ate that well, so I think I'll leave them overnight and just wait until 6am to feed them. I am yet to perfect the art of not getting air bubbles in their crops but it doesn't seem to worry them - not sure how you burp a finch!!!

They aren't the best photos as it's a dark, rainy day here, which is great for our water tanks, especially considering the amount of boiling water I'm using, and the amount of cleaning I'm doing of feeding utensils.

The finches are usually independent by 5 weeks when parent raised but I think it can take a bit longer if they have to be hand raised. With the Bourkes I think it can be 8-10 weeks before they are eating all by themselves, but they need less formula feeds as they get older.

J, those babies are so cute! Thank you for sharing pictures with us.

Will the Bourkes stay cuddly when they're older? Nice of the finches to let you skip one of the nighttime feedings

Good deal on getting some rain!

The Bourkes aren't a very cuddly bird but they love being with you and make a very sweet pet. Anyone who has a hand reared one just adores them (or so I've read on the net). The finches will stay very tame too, unlike the older babies who now have 4 adults telling them to get away from the big, scary human.

It really has rained here and it's suppose to continue all today. We were about to order some water, our tanks were getting so low. I'm glad we waited.
