The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

With some modifications, what do you all think of this coop? DH doesn't have any time to build something but there's a guy in town that can. I was thinking of showing him this coop idea with my changes and getting a price estimate.
https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/the-little-cottage-coop

What I'd change:
* make the door a bit wider (2.5' instead of 2')
* nesting box on the outside to save inside room
* regular square door instead of the arched door
* no window box
* different roost placement

Don't pay any attention to the run, I have another idea for that.

Opinions? Thoughts?

Love that...looks like a little cottage. I would maybe insulate the nesting box if you put it on the outside with those winter Wyoming breezes...I'm not a coop specialist though

Good morning folks

Gees, I am on some sort of roller coaster at the moment, gone from the highs of XTC Debbie being gone and my new shiny Greeter badge to the lows of having a sore throat and headache which I reckon is probably something I picked up while in the office last week .. another reason to stay away from the office

Anyways, I am working today but they have been warned that I am not up to par and if I have to deal with some of our regular cranky users, I will pull the pin!

sunflour good to hear that your coop and chookens were OK during the bad weather. I had not heard about the ‘natural’ egg thing .. fascinating and now I am going to have to try it too!

Luckily I have puddy cats who like raw egg!

N F C I love your ‘coffee relationship’ avatar! My honest opinion on the coop, I like the basics of it but yeah, the window box and colours are a bit over the top for me; I like something that blends in with the flora and fauna and would have gone with stained timber, but that is just me. I agree with the nesting box on the outside etc. Very exciting that you are getting back into chickens!

Blooie & N F C I hope you do not get too much snow and that it does not interfere with your meet.

J sorry to hear that XTC Debbie is giving you a hard time also and I hope that everything does not get too wet.

Our predicted maximum today is only 77F ....

Edited to Add: Ooooh, back on a high, lol! I just saw I have my 4 Year Badge now too

Thanks for the feedback sis. A dutch door would be nice but I don't know how useful it would be here...probably more expense just for the look than the practicality. We definitely have to have a covered run, there are hawks and eagles around. I want to have it right next to our detached garage, partly for the convenience and partly for a wind block.

I'm going to fine tune my sketches and send them to the builder to see what he comes back with cost-wise.

Sounds like you have it under control..

I like the idea of being next to your garage.

Hope the cost is doable.

@sunflour I have failed miserably at egg balancing. Does crunching up the bottom count?

Whatever it takes

. I picked a rounder egg with lots of calcium deposits on the bottom, still took some time to find the balance.

DH couldn't stand it, we got one egg today and he had to try it before placing in the fridge...it worked but only stood a few seconds

I think he shook the floor when he was trying to get me to see it.

Telia, so sorry you don't feel well, hope you didn't catch if from me. Mine started with a really bad sore throat and then sinusitis and bronchitis.

.

A little wine goes a long way to help dull the symptoms...
