The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Good morning

No snow showers expected today...it's in the teen's now but is supposed to warm up to 48*.

Teila, sorry to hear you picked up a bug somewhere. Hot tea w/honey can help.

sunflour, you're feeling punky too? Have you and Teila been hanging out together?

Nicky, I like your dream coop!

Going to be a busy day here today. Have to take my drug test this morning, then assuming I pass, I'll go to HR and fill out my paperwork. Hoping to hear back from the guy with the chicks that I can pick them up Friday. Need to get my brooder stuff in town...sure wish I still had the one DH built for me in FL, it was perfect but too much to move. I have one more biscuit recipe to make up (got it from my dentist yesterday!), that gives us a 3rd one to consider for the restaurant at the golf course. And DH just notified me that he's out of clean tighty whitey's so I best get on that pile of laundry.

Hope everyone has a good Wednesday!

Ok, things are shaping up...

I'm getting 5 chicks Friday

I just sent the builder the info to get an estimate on a coop (please please please don't be tooooo expensive)

I'm excited and nervous about all this at the same time. Maybe I should do a "new member" intro again? Feels like the first time, lol!

Welcome, Suzi18!

Debby, are you gettiung chicks from Bob? If you are I'm so jealous I can't stand it! Mine are in transit - supposedly they are in Cheyenne right now, which means Casper by tonight and here around 5am tomorrow. I hate the extra day in transit. Got the brooder set up in outside in the run for them but since we'll be out of town (visiting YOU) on Friday and Saturday we're going to set them up in the temporary brooder in the house with Mama Heating Pad. I HATE having chicks in the house, but it's easier for Katiebug to watch them that way. She knows that some might be weak from shipping - she even knows that we may lose some. She's so matter-of-fact about the chickens she astounds me. Last night went something like this:

Katie - So I gather the eggs and feed the Bigs as usual, and then check on the Littles' food and water, right?

Me - Yep, and the Littles will be in the house so you can really keep a closer eye on them.

Katie, with a big sigh: I hope none of the chicks die while you're gone. That's always such a pain in the butt and it's so sad.

Me: I know, but these chicks have had a tough trip and Silkies are Bantams so they don't always handle it well. It won't be your fault if a couple don't make it. I'll be sure to give them Nutri-drench and since we don't leave until late Friday afternoon they should all be much stronger by then.

Katie: Okay. Gramma, if any of them do die, I'll just take them out of the brooder and put them in plastic bag. Should I put them in the freezer until you get home so they don't rot in the brooder?

Yeah, that's my chicken raiser!

Blooie, I just love Katie, she's awesome! Are you sure you couldn't spare a grand-daughter? After all, you have 2 and I don't have any. I am getting the chicks from Bob...keeping my fingers crossed there won't be any boys in the batch.
