The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

She opened her eyes and responded to a couple of very simple commands this morning!!! They said her brain was without oxygen and didn't emit carbon dioxide (and I have no idea if I phrased that correctly) which basically shuts the brain down. The final MRI report was more in depth than the preliminary report and it said that she had a few older mini-strokes, but they don't know yet what caused this episode.

They still have her on a respirator and feeding tube, and they are setting up a 24 hour EEG right after she comes back from dialysis. They did caution us that they don't know how much brain function she'll get back or when that will start happening. I wish I'd been there for this morning, but we are leaving here on Wednesday to go back. I need to physically SEE her with my own eyes, you know?

Ken tried to get his post-op appointment changed and I called to get my stress test/cardiologist visit changed as well. In both cases the next available time for appointments was quite a time away. Mine is no big deal, I went ahead and rescheduled for mid-June, because it's just my annual, but Ken has to be checked before they can go on to the next phase of PT.

Thanks for the prayers and support! The power of prayer is immense!

Still praying here, drive carefully....Hope things improve

Good morning!

Busy day ahead. We have a meeting luncheon for 27 tomorrow so lots to get ready ahead of time.

Teila, cute cat! I'm sure she's lots of company for you right now.

Sunflour, how is Buddy doing these days?

Hope you all have a great day!

He is doing very well, thanks for asking.

Good luck with the luncheon. Does the course and club house close at least one day a week so you can get some rest?

Blooie, safe trip and I'm glad Linda is responsive. That's a great sign.

Debby, you certainly are keeping busy. I don't even know how you fit 3 working weeks into one! That's crazy!

Here are my Java babies - they are 18 days old today.

This one is called Stumpy - it only has one full toe (on the foot you can't see). It was the one that was almost white due to blood loss when I brought them inside, instead of being pink. I still can't believe it survived.

Our older Javas are just starting to moult into their adult colours. They are a bit jumpy as juveniles but still love to sit on us - in fact they prefer being on us which is nice. We have learned that if we put on a sunhat when we get them out they won't sit on our heads (too often). Having my hair pooped in a few times wasn't all that fun!

Wasn't Piper feeding the Java chicks? I know what piggy eaters they are - do you think they were too forceful about getting food in their mouths and may have injured Piper(the giver?)

I wonder if that caused her bleeding. Sorry to bring this up - it's painful enough but, I keep thinking that and just wanted to throw it out there.....

No, it was Luvy and Valentine helping out with all of them occasionally. When I found Piper dead our daughter said maybe the Javas hurt her by accident, but the bleeding came from inside her. I could've scratched her with the end of the glass eye dropper at some point which set up a little infection perhaps. That's all I can think of. I have been sad as s/he was just at that super cute baby stage and I'd looked after her/him long enough to be quite attached. And I do miss his/her quiet, high pitched peeping. It was quite a contrast to the raucous, ear piercing Java yelling!

Good morning!

@Blooie I'm glad you & Ken are making the trip to SD...you're right, nothing can take the place of seeing things for yourself. Drive carefully (thankfully, the roads should be ok) and know you're taking our thoughts & prayers with you.

J, Stumpy is adorable (and I love his name).

Dawn, hi to you! How are things going up your way, has the weather started to show signs of shaking off winter?

Sunflour, the course & restaurant are open 7 days a week from mid-April through mid-October. Still pretty much DH & me, even with the employees we still have. Yesterday the full time cook went home early (not feeling well), the part-time cook only wants to work weekends, and the bartender stood around all day then when he finally had customers he decided he needed to leave early too. I asked DH last night what's wrong with us that we put in 14 hour days while the younger ones are dropping like flies?

Quick question for those that are on your feet a lot...what brand of shoes have you found to be the most comfortable? I need to get something I can actually bear to walk in all day.

Hope you all have a good day!

Sketchers are the most comfortable for me. I don't know if anything will hold up to your long days though. I wish I lived by you cuz I'd would work for you as I have that same work ethic.

Sorry about the 7 days a week, and employee issues - you two will wear out this season if you don't get some good helpers.

I like Asics and Merrell's shoes the best. Keens are good but IMO get heavy feeling after a lot of hours on your feet and run wide. I wear very thick cushioned socks and buy work shoes to fit those.
But even a brand varies so much with a particular style. If you get tired legs or even a small amount of swelling in your feet - Therafirm Ease compression hose are awesome.
