Thanks J. I think working today sort of helped limber me up again...I got pretty stiff laying on the couch off & on yesterday.

Is this about the usual time of year for you to get a frost? Your seasons are flipped around from ours, we just starting feeling like summer here.

It's been a pretty warm June overall I have to say (my strawberry plants are still flowering, silly things), but July is the coldest month for sure. But in saying that I think last year my thermometer read at negative 3 degrees celsius (26.6 F) briefly one morning. That's as cold as it gets (which is cold enough for me)! Our daytime temperatures generally get up to at least 50 F in winter, but it's a damp cold.

My feather babies are very cute, the Javas especially. They are just so funny arguing and jostling for position. The older ones have almost moulted into their adult colours and the younger ones are just starting. I must take some more photos of them.

There is a Java in the aviary on 7 eggs and one of the Society finches has laid a few eggs so far. I might hand rear some more Society finch chicks if I get a chance (if they get that far). Hopefully my Java will do ok on her own.

Our 6 year old son just discovered he has his first wiggly tooth! He was quite upset, but we've explained the process and that, if he leaves it alone it won't hurt (he hates blood). He's just asked me if I wanted to see it again (when I actually really want him to go to bed)!

Good morning all! It's 45 degrees here this morning... corn and beans won't be growing today. I lost my first chicken this weekend to a predator. My son was supposed to lock them in before he headed to the rodeo but the little buggers weren't ready to go in so I told him to just head out. I sent a text to my neighbor and she didn't respond until the next morning and went over there and found a path of feathers. Colton set up a camera last night by the coop so hopefully we can figure out what got her. We've had 2 fox in the area but there's all kinds of other critters that could have gotten her.

Thanks Sour! Son went out and checked camera this morning and the pallet he had it attached to tipped over so no pictures and batteries died so off to town today for batteries.

I know I should be doing something productive today but it's so nice out!! Must be a perfect year for growing flowers, usually mine don't look this nice. Sorry for the flower overload

DMC, sorry about losing one of your girls. Hopefully you get the critter! Love the flowers too! So pretty and summery. I need that this morning. It's cold here, still dark so I can't see the backyard, but our car is covered in ice.

I have 2 broody chickens I'm dealing with, one of which was broody just a few weeks ago. I can hear her trying to get out of her chicken jail from the deck. I lost one of my nicest chickens to that darn predator and got stuck with this nasty buff. She's not nice even when she's not broody.

I'm ok - it's a sunny day and we have a fireplace (love our fire) so we are toasty. It's supposed to be cold again tonight, but as long as the sun is semi drying my washing I'll be happy. Our washing machine has started to not spin the washing out quite enough (some loads are still dripping) so I'm looking at reviews, researching brands, trying to decide on a new one. That wasn't in the budget, but it will have to be now! Trying to dry towels that are still soaking is not fun!
