The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

I was in the aviary late afternoon and the Java mother popped out (I was moving something which she didn't like) so I had to peek. Two babies had hatched and one was still sitting in the bottom of its shell! So cute and ugly. I didn't have my phone unfortunately, plus it was a bit dark to take a photo, and I wanted Mama finch to get back to them. But it did look so cute.

Then we had a good thunderstorm with hail and very heavy rain. We hardly ever have thunder here so that was fun. I stood out on the front step (it is covered) and watched. We get sheet lightening here and it lit up the whole sky.

jae are you able to find homes for so many babies or keep them?

Thunder snow sounds very exciting!

The lady I got the Java adults from would like them back, so she can have the little ones too. She couldn't take all her birds with her when they moved house but she missed the Javas and got some more once they were settled, but all her fawns turned out to be boys. Our 7 hand reared babies aren't going anywhere though. We love them too much!

Good morning!

OHLD, good for you on the bike riding. Hope the bad dismount doesn't cause you too much trouble.

J, congrats on some new littles! We used to get crazy thunderstorms in FL but up here in Wyoming it's an occasional rain with LOTS of wind (but then it's almost always windy, lol).

Men's League Night was last night...great turnout, so glad to see groups coming back out to the golf course.

Gotta run, I'm already behind and not even dressed for the day yet. Have a great one my friends!

I give up!!! :barnie I checked on the Java chicks this morning, waited until the day had warmed up a bit then had a peek. Two chicks squished (mashed really) and two chicks still alive, but one is missing toes on one foot!!! I give up!!!

The two survivors are currently keeping warm by the fire until the incubator warms up enough. They have eaten for me thankfully. I just can't believe it! I've kinda got a bit too much to be doing round the house to be feeding babies, but I'll just have to fit them in.

Miss Pink (Bourke female) has laid one egg so far - I caught her out of the box demanding food from her mate, Lucky, so I took the opportunity to take a peek. The Society finches still have 5 fertile eggs, but it's my unreliable pair. The male is taking an interest this time around, unlike previous attempts, plus there seems to be two young ones helping out. We'll see how that goes!

Good early morning. It's 3:15am here and have a load of laundry started. Trouble sleeping stinks!

J, sorry for the Java chicks. I hope the 2 survivors make it. So sounds like you have a Stumpy 2?
