Thanks Jae, let's hope so!! Cats are so much easier.Puppies are naughty. I'm not sure I'd want another puppy but I think my DD would. They are a lot of work, but the work you put in is eventually rewarded!
Hattie sure is cute!

That is a long time to be naughty.I miss naughty puppies. For me it generally takes about 1-2 years before mine mature enough to be considered raised. I'm always wanting another puppy, but must control myself. She's adorable.
Isn't it. If you go to any animal shelter half the dogs in them are around 7-10 months because people expect their puppy to be better by than. They go through a period at about 7 months where they suddenly won't listen and have apparently forgotten everything you taught them. Stick with it and you have a wonderful dog for life. Hopefully yours isn't too naughty. I raise mine like they are kids, consistent rules and routines. That is a long time to be naughty.
Now that's just gross. So if they ate the toad, would it make their poop toadstools?
Sorry, couldn't help it.![]()
They are a lot of work initially, I always say it's like raising a kid but you do it in 1-2 years. Sometimes I don't like my dogs until they finally mature. They reach a point where they suddenly feel guilty if they do something wrong. I'm always relieved to reach that point. Some are sooner than others. So I love puppies, but am happier when they are adults.I bought a front control harness off someone who, when I told them what we suspected our mutt was (English Pointer cross choc lab), said she would be 2 1/2 - 3 years old before we'd see any maturity. I nearly cried! And they were right.
But I tried to do all the right things and our Honey has actually been a very easy first dog, being so food focused. She's still very excitable and life is still a game, but she knows the rules.
But nobody ever explains what that puppy stage is like and I think there's a lot of people that might change their mind about buying a puppy if they only knew how difficult it can actually be. It certainly was a shock to me - neither of us had ever had a dog. Its a lot of work but it does pay off.

She has learned when she comes racing up to you to sit as she wants to be pet. We are training like you did. I know she will be a good dog eventually and she does have a sweet nature about her but....I'm glad we still have our old dog as he's never been a vehicle chaser and never has left the yard other then if he goes for a walk with me, so she's seeing Bear's good behavior. Hattie irritates him on a regular basis. We've never heard so much barking and growling from him. We've invested too much money in her just to give up so patience patience patience. We've never had an actual puppy. Bear was from the humane society and our dog before that was a yellow lab who was a house dog we got from my sister and chewed everything up in her house including the corner of her new kitchen cabinet so he was rehomed to us and put outside and he was the best dog ever. He apparently did not like being a house dog. Sorry for the long winded response, thanks for the advice!Isn't it.
