The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Hey there DMC! Hurricane Hattie...I like that! She is growing for sure. I'm not up on the Nexgard or Heartgard stuff for dogs but @oldhenlikesdogs may very well be able to help you out.

Yuck on the mosquitoes! 9" of rain sure would bring them on. Ours seem to be mostly gone with the cooler weather. We have been in the midst of fly season but maybe/hopefully, this cold weather knocks some of them out.

And YES! I am enjoying the lighter schedule very much :thumbsup Just another 27 days until the course is closed for the season...yippee!

Hi Debby! Hurricane Hattie as she's been named is cute but she's a puppy....destruction every where she goes. Craig weighed her this morning and she's 39 lbs. He also said he needed to go on a diet cuz he had to weigh himself first to get her weight:lol:Anybody have an opinion on Nexgard or Heartgard for dogs. I had to weigh her for dosing. Expensive as heck so wondering if there's an equally good cheaper version. This is vet recommended of course:rolleyes:I got charged an additional $8 for getting them from the vet. When she's a steady weight I can buy a full box instead of 1 at a time. Anyway...you got snow today? It's very humid here today and we are supposed to get rain tonight. I would like to see a frost just to kill the mosquitoes. The 9 inches of rain we got a few weeks ago caused a massive amount of them to be hatched and they are aggressive. Are you enjoying your lighter schedule?
There's Iverhart. If your vet doesn't carry it you can order it from places like Foster and Smith with a prescription from your vet. I've got 5 dogs, heartworm preventative is pricey, but worth it.

I think i may put hardware cloth around my beds, if husband does not object. Of course, that will not stop bugs. Tonight before dark i chopped up left over peppers and onions and sprinkled them around on the ground near my new sprouting plants. I figure it can't hurt and it might help. My cukes are so small and cute! Can hardly wait until they are big enough to eat.
Maybe when my chickens get bigger they can go on a field trip to the garden if i screen in my beds. They are welcome to any bugs they find!
Have you ever tried planting Marigolds in your garden. I've heard it's a natural bug repellant plus a perk for prettiness. I've been lucky and have never had a bug problem.

The latest beans that sprouted and were chewed off are right up against the marigolds. No effect at all. On the plus side, i do like the color in my garden. And something actually ate my marigolds out front along with every petunia i planted. Flower boxes next year.

The other tactic is to plant "sacrificial plants", ones the bugs like even better than the ones you want to keep.
As for heartworm treatments, my dogs have an annual injection. I think it costs about $50.
Sounds like a plan but i can't seem to find the right sacrifice to save my bean and pea plants.

We have gophers that chew our green beans off. Rabbits ate my moss roses and something has been chewing on my watermelons. Deer love petunias.
