The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

I was looking at a plant nursery and they had Paw paw trees to sell for like $40. At that rate, i could be rich fast. We have thousands of them! Husband says i could have a cottage industry, lol.

Actually Rage syndrome started in English Springer Spaniels. First bout with it (1980)- I bought a 2 mos. puppy from a breeder I knew for years.. I wanted to replace my late stud. He seemed very sweet and friendly, and then clear out of the blue attacked me. Seconds later was sweet again. I didn't need a repeat to convince to me return him.

Breeder had a fit that I returned him and told her why. After much loud mouthing and berating her husband got into the act.. Saying I shouldn't get a full refund - I guess because he was a "used" puppy???

I told him then, he could pay for the tonsilectomy the pup needed when I brought him home, and also treatment for the strep skin infection - they didn't seem to notice. Wife
said it obviously came from a female they had in for breeding. I shrugged my shoulders and asked why they hadn't treated him?

Somehow I left with my refund and they got the pup. She immediately turned around and sold him to someone else for show/breeding. I'm sure she figured the new owner wouldn't know better.

You find out a lot about a person's character by the way they handle/mishandle problems.

Sometime later my sister wanted a pup and I referred her to good friends that were a couple states away. Puppy arrived, was adorable. THEN!! My sister let it out in my kitchen. I was sitting on the bottom of the stairs. Puppy came over to me, all wiggle waggle so I petted her. She bit me. I don't mean a cute little teething puppy bite. Then wiggled and waggled and went on her way.

I lost no time in telling Sister to return the dog. Sister thought I was nuts, because it was so pretty & sweet. Sister went home with the dog only to call in the evening to say the dog attacked her and her teenage daughter. She returned her.

Only difference was breeder gave immediate refund and paid the return shipping. A class act. Who knows, maybe in a kennel environment - with a litter of puppies you don't "catch them" in a rage moment.

BTW when I saw the pedigree later - sister's pup had almost identical breeding as the male I had bought elsewhere and returned.

This was way earlier than that, I'm not sure they knew about it back then, the vet just said he was a "bad dog". It's only reading about it now that I figured that's what had been wrong with him.

I present "Exhibit A" as to the grottiest dog ever. I've no idea what she's been doing outside or what she's got all over her face. It's raining and it's going to be wet, so no bath until it fines up. sigh.

Wow that's interesting. Kind of makes me not want to try the breeds now haha

You need to be careful with every breed, do some homework and assess the parents and get all the checks you can. It's bad enough having health issues with any pet, it's really bad when you've just got a dog with "problems" from the get-go. Very upsetting.
