The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

:hugsHow are you liking your new home?

It is going good. So much done and still to do but we are getting there. FIL is a bit of a hoarder/doomsday prepper which is OK when only one hooman and one dog in residence but now there are 3 hoomans, 1 dog, 2 cats and 5 chickens so stuff has to go!

Luckily, Jessie [the dog] accepted the cats and chickens and the cats and chickens tolerate her ;)

I now have another fur baby to love :love along with walks on the beach.

Yeah but I'm gonna win! Veronica squatted today when I put my hand over her and let me pet her. Betty moved away when I tried it on her. Cassie squatted 2 days ago and laid yesterday. Of course I hadn't tried to touch her before yesterday. Some of my first batch in 2012 squatted a week or two before they laid so I'm not counting on seeing a new avatar for @sunflour just yet.

At least you can SEE the stuff in the walk in! Too many small things hide in the back of the home refrigerator. Then we all know what happens :sick

Sounds like you're gonna win, none of my Wellies squat - but we'll see what happens :D

Hey everyone!

First up, my sincere apologies for leaving everyone in the dark as to my whereabouts and may be wondering if all was OK. Since the move up to FNQ life has been beyond hectic with so much to do and so little time including nearly losing our 9 year old cat to kidney stones; after two weeks in veterinary care he is now home which would not have been the case if we had listened to the local Vet who wanted us to euthanize on day 2.

Chookens are doing great!

Anyways, things have settled a little and I will now hopefully have time to catch up with everyone and learn how the 'new site' works.

I missed you guys!

And you have been missed, glad you are back :hugs.

My schedule has been crazy again, trying to keep up with the chats has been a challenge for me lately :hmm

We missed you too! I did wonder where you'd got to. I'm glad your kitty is back to his old self and your new baby looks gorgeous!

Beautiful picture!

I am not sure, however kidney issues are apparently very common in older cats but Syba is only 9. He apparently has small kidney/large kidney syndrome and a stone blocked the large kidney causing him to crash with Creatinine levels in the 1,800's when 400 is considered very high. He was a very sick little man very quickly.

Two days into his 'crash' the local Vet was pushing us to euthanize him but we know our boy and he was still fighting so we drove him 2 hours to a Cat Specialist who performed more tests, booked surgery at the Uni Vet [who had never done the surgery before but was prepared to give it a go] but miraculously Syba passed the stone on his own Day 5, the evening before surgery was booked and 3 days after we would have said our tearful goodbyes if we listened to the first Vet. Syba did not eat for 5 days and was on IV fluids for 8 days but we could see that he had not given up so we did not either. We are booked in for a follow up blood test in a week to check 'stable' levels.

When he came home his Creatinine was still in the 400's which has a prognosis of maybe months but the Specialist was confident that it would drop some more over a few weeks and we would then be talking years, with good management. I am optimistic as he has been home for 2 weeks now and is eating, drinking, playing with his little sister and we have seen marked improvement which is a good sign that the levels have hopefully dropped some more .. fingers crossed!

Now I just have to sell one of my kidneys on the black market to pay for it all! :lau
