The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

We got cold enough that the tomato and pepper plants died. And I had them covered when I thought it was going to be that cold. So today was "clear out the garden" day. And "pull out all the weeds and grass from where we SHOULD have pulled them when the garden was alive" day! But at least next spring we will be more ready for early planting. Never managed to have the beds generally clear of weeds in prior springs.

Sounds like you had a busy day working Bruce. Time to kick back and relax!

I think people just don't discipline their kids. Or they do it too much.

I swear, every time I go somewhere it's either screaming kids that they just let scream or bribe or beg. OR. It's people that imo are mean to the kids or cold or whatever. Maybe I'm just overly sensitive.

But UGH.

The worst I see, and I've seen this at least a few times, especially at Walmart (ours has a Subway) or fast food places, the kid will be excited about something and trying to talk to the parents, guardian, grandparents, whatever, and they'll just be on the phone ignoring the poor kid! Or they'll not be on the phone but just generally act disinterested. Kids pick up on that stuff! Pay attention to your dang Kids! That's even worse than parenting to me cause I know that kid's gonna feel unimportant/unloved/like they don't care. NOW. Obviously you can't judge someone or their parenting just seeing them for a few minutes or seconds sometimes so they could be a perfectly loving parent other times and just have to work or do something for a few minutes but still, you can just tell sometimes

But thankfully there aren't that many weird things at our Wal-Mart

Went to Bishop, GA today and bought some North GA apples :wee. Was working too many days last year to do the apple thing and am so eggcited to have time this year ....will be off again Tue-Thursday to get some applesauce canned and make a few fried apple pies :drool . Also stopped by one of my fav flea market malls and got some great stuff.....on the way we got behind a really long trailer filled with what looked like miniature long horned cows or bulls? Pics are on DH's phone ( and he's cleaning the coop :)) Will post later, maybe y'all know what they are.

I miss Kmart...they always had whatever I was looking for. All we have is a Wal-Mart :tongue

We still have Kmart here, but they've shut down their pharmacy and who knows how long before they go under.

I used to love Walmart, can hardly stand to go in there anymore. A manager was trying to figure out breaks with 2 of his employees yesterday as my friend and I were being checked out and they were not quiet about it. I walked out shaking my head. I could not find a chicken waterer other then what I have already. They had a metal base one but was only good for 10* above 0. Guy helping me was no help and I told him so. I bought a 1.5 gallon dog dish instead.

I have never seen anything for chickens at any of ours, maybe because of location? I know a lady in management at one and an employee cannot read an analog clock:hmm

It's the screaming kids that are always in W-M that bother me. You can't be in the store 5 minutes before some child starts screaming. I asked a cashier there once why kids always screamed in their store. She said she didn't know but the day after Halloween was always the worst...I'm guessing the kids are all sugared up then. Honestly I think the kids scream because they can :( But will definitely stay home the day after Halloween :)

Our tomato plants succumb way before cold hits here, maybe the length of the days?
We used to have luck with peppers, but now only hot peppers do well - gonna have to figure that out before next year. Good luck with the weeds, we gave up and used round up....some even grew under a tarp left in place for the entire season :he.

Any newbie laying of you yet? Debby my pullet has laid a total of 4 beautiful almost small sized eggs, but the other 3 are just free loaders so far :lau....And now my BR Road Runner appears to have stopped laying - 4.5 years and has laid nearly daily until Debby started laying....could this be a coincidence :th

Your day sounds great, love the sound of homemade fried pies :drool Hmmm, maybe we need to find out how well they ship (to Wyoming)!

No other layers yet? Good thing Debby is there to save the day :woot

Here's the cows/bulls :

smaller than they look in the pic, most were black or brown, with the blonde one in the end. They had really big horns IMO for such small/youngin's. Thankful for the passing lane, we were bombarded by "you know what" until we could pass :sick
