OK, no bets! @N F C needs a rest ;)

52g would usually be a big first egg but I've had girls with bigger ones
Mellori 2015 BA - 56g
Zorra (BA) and Persephone (EE) 2012 chicks both started big though I didn't have the scale then. Zorra's 3rd egg was 58g

In all 3 cases, they started a fair bit later than their flock mates. But since Veronica is only up to 50g to 54g, I also don't expect Betty to lay that big a first egg.

Whoa, those were big first eggs!

Bruce, are you all wintery there yet? It's still only 33* here today and snow is expected again on Thursday. Winter came earlier this year than last.

I have read that the older a pullet is when she first lays, the larger first eggs will be. So maybe my other 3 will have big eggs :) They are getting some fair sized wattles and combs, so hoping they'll start laying soon.

It also depends on the breed

Sure is, if you mean winter in the SOUTH! This was the prediction for today and tomorrow

This is not normal. Going to be lows in the mid 40s, highs in the mid 50's after this. We haven't seen the predicted rain yet, so far just spitting some on and off but the graph suggests more is likely starting around 5.

Either Veronica is doing super pullet duty or Betty is sneaking some in the nest Veronica prefers. I've found Welsummer eggs 6 days running. That makes it "First egg"/1 off, 2 on/1 off, 6 on (today). Not unheard of though. When Angel (2015 White Rock) started it was "First egg"/1 off, 2 on/1 off, 5 on/1 off, 7 on/1 off, 32 on/1 off. Yep THIRTY TWO days in a row.

Good morning friends :hugs

Vent time! I had a huge vent typed up and then deleted it because I felt bad. But, I am starting to feel taken for granted and like the hired but unpaid help around here! I am getting tired of picking up after people and I seem to get no time to myself! Remember that bit of garden I cleaned out under the stairs? Went down the stairs yesterday to find 2 x empty wine cartons just tossed in there!

I hit the ground running in the morning and do not stop until bed time while others mooch around, playing computer games, watching videos etc. I am not one for just sitting and I like to keep busy and even if sitting, I am probably doing my cross stitch, but that busy does not include picking up after other people or recleaning where I just cleaned because people are too lazy to put stuff away. I am a very patient person but my very long fuse is rapidly decreasing in size! I feel an imminent explosion about to happen

Anyways, vent over and thank you for giving me the opportunity to vent. We can now return to our usual program ;)

Family are doing this?

Time for some tough love.... fight.gif

Some boundaries set and consequences applied for not doing their share.

No Soup for You! (You say this to them)

@Teila you just go ahead and vent when you need to (you don't do that very often). I can understand why that is so frustrating (and I only pick up after one guy, not two). Maybe it's time you had a talk with them?

Thanks hon :hugs

I am used to picking up after one [hubby] but he is at work for most of the day and I chose that lot in life. However, I now have someone else to clean up after and he is home all day and while he has all day to do stuff and is not an invalid, it appears that it is easier to just leave it because the 'maid' [who also has a paid, full time job] will be along shortly to fix that right up!

I did try talking to hubby about it but I get told that "I need to be more patient" so he is no longer a venting option. He knows I am not happy about it but he just gets to give me a kiss and heads out the door for the sanctuary of his office for the day.

This will go one of a few ways, I will continue to 'be patient' and hopefully not explode or I will get over it and return to my normal happy self, or I am going to explode or I am going to say &^%$ this and walk away!

I am hoping that I can 'get over it' and return to my normal happy self ;)

@Teila :hugs

Maybe try something like I used to do with my 2 boys...enlist their help (even if you don't really need it) by saying things like, "hey whatsyourname, help me do whatever", get started on the chore together and find an excuse to walk away (going to the bathroom for extended periods of time usually worked as a good excuse...I kept a novel in there to read while they kept working;)). That worked well after I did it often enough with dishes, laundry, vacuuming, etc. Pretty soon they got the hint that they were going to have to do it by themselves

Or, just leave it all for DH. You do your part and let him do the rest.

That's all I got.
