The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

I was cleaning up some computer files and found this old funny...

I am nowhere near a stage where I would invite people to visit.
Hey, for all you know Gai knew the prior owners and will be impressed at the improvements you've already made inside :D

@KDOGG331 Be careful that you don't train the dog to think he will get treats or get to come inside every time he barks! Don't ever reward him for coming when you call because he is barking. You'll train him to bark instead of training him to stop. There was a show about cats on the radio last week. I think it would apply to dogs as well - once they have the "if I do this I'll get rewarded" thing figured out, you don't need to reward them every time ... and shouldn't. They'll keep up the "habit" hoping for that reward even if it only comes sometimes. Of course a good scratch behind the ear doesn't count as that sort of reward, scratch away.

@Teila that's a good point made by @bruceha2000 (don't tell him I said so ;)). There have been times when I put off doing something thinking things weren't just "right", only to never get another chance and miss an opportunity. Invite her over to see the chickens, she loves birds obviously, and if she doesn't like the state of your house then maybe she's not friend material.

My 2 cents (not that you asked for it).

Hmm, that's a good point but wouldn't you be rewarding the coming when called and not the barking at that point but anyway, I wasn't going to give him the treat permanently, just temporarily until he relearn come because he appears to have forgotten hah. I don't always bring him inside when he barks either, just call him away. He's part LGD and not really socialized so he tends to bark at anyone walking by or the neighbors in the back (not always or usually but sometimes he hears something).

But he does actually bark when he gets stuck (he goes out on a long rope cause the yard isn't fenced. Really need to fence it lol) or when he's at the door and wants to come in. Probably shouldn't reward that but it is nice because sometimes he likes to lay outside for anywhere from like 10 mins to a half hour or hour so we can go watch TV or do something and he will come to the door and bark when he's ready to come in. It works for us, idk. But maybe I should be discouraging it? But the part I have the problem with is when he barks at people walking dogs by, barks to play, barks for no reason that I can see (legit sometimes he just lays out there barking etc.), even inside the house. Idk how to discourage it. Maybe he just needs more exercise and training?

I'd do some training inside with less distractions @KDOGG331. Just randomly say his name in an excited voice and say "come", wave a treat near him so he has to take a couple of steps towards you and treat him for coming. Slowly work up to across the room etc. If he likes his food it won't take long for him to keep one eye on you in case you give the command! Our dog is so well behaved when food is involved!

Totally agree!

Good Morning

I napped several hours and just got up. I plan a shower but, the hardest part is getting dry. Lands End so absorbent towels, are not. :tongue Maybe I'd be better with towel paper.

I prefer plain old fashioned cotton towels - no fabric softeners and they dry you better.

@Teila I was tired before I read about your day...now I'm exhausted, lol! I hope you'll share some new photos of your yard when you're ready to share some more...it's going to be beautiful when you're finished.

DH set up my desk set, a new file cabinet and a new chair (I leave the room for this stuff, he says I'm "too" much help). Had to go to town which always takes forever because my husband turns into Mr. Social Butterfly and talks to everyone (whether he knows them or not). Finally got my computer set up and a desk lamp. Now 1/2 my stuff is downstairs and 1/2 up here...good thing there's a tomorrow!

@sunflour your day sounds like fun! I want to see a photo of those chicken things you picked up. Glad you enjoyed your lunch and day :)

Must be about time to fix dinner, be back later!

Glad you got your computer room going, maybe you don't need everything brought up there?

I tried to post pics but waited til it was too late to get a pic :(

I'm working today and tomorrow, but at least Monday is a short 9 hour shift :)
