@sunflour are there any a joining trees that a coon could get up and go branch to branch? If not, then hawk net would probably work.

No, one really big tree and the entire tree will be well inside the fencing.

This will just be a daytime area and they will be out there only when we're home.

That's the guy, trying out his new bed. So far, he's only worked up enough courage to put his front 1/2 in it. He's such a scaredy cat.

I'm planning on fencing in an area that may have a tree - but think if I surround the tree with hawk net it will be ok? Just a daytime, when someone is home area. Or do you think I need to exclude the tree?

The reason to exclude trees is not for hawks or aerial predators, but coons and possums....they will cross over the branches of trees like a squirrel and then climb down for access....any netting wouldn't deter them they would either rip it or bite it, they will bite thru poultry wire like cutting it with tin snips. There are trees inside our big fenced area, but none are in the yards of the birds and they are penned up in their pen or coop at nite that has hardware cloth on it..... ....the first pic is the duck side and they are under the building, but have no access inside the building. The 2nd pic is the chickens side and they have the underneath and inside the building for roosts and nests. The fences are only barriers against any predator, but the house areas are much more protected.....the duck area is 6'x 8', the chickens have 2 levels of 6'x8'.

Our male cat is definitely a Daddy’s boy and our female cat is her own agent

We will have to do our Thanksgiving Turkey on Sunday this year. With hubby and I working Thursday and me away Friday and most of Saturday, Sunday is the best day for us.

We picked the car up last night and more for those guys [or gals] who were interested in the price comparison; it was $420ish [including GST] to find the leaks, replace 2 x heater hoses and remove, clean and new clamp to top radiator hose, fill cooling system, bleed air, new radiator cap, road test and confirm temperature OK and recovery bottle levels OK. Parts $124, freight $18 and labour $280 or 3 hours at $85/hour.

We have booked her in for a service in a fortnight’s time and to have the cooling system flushed.

If you have not done it yet, it would be a good idea to get the automatic transmission(if you have one) back flushed, filter and fluid changed. Around here, transmissions cost about $10,000 to replace. That usually is the end of life for a car.

Why didn't they do that when they had the car?? Seems a burden on you to have to bring it back and leave it another day.

Pretty cat I made 3 cat beds like that. They were used for some time but now I think the cats prefer people beds, chairs, couch and not the official cat beds.

You have a very nice coop and run.

Mine are in an all-in-one fortified coop/run. The area we let them out with supervision is quite small....the new area will also be under supervision. We have raccoon, possum, coyotes and fox and occasional stray dog..so no way will I let my gals be without fortification unless totally supervised

IMO doesn't matter what day you celebrate, but important you do get to

So again, evidence my male - female, female - male bonding theory is incorrect .

Still seems lower cost than a new auto...but you do need to keep tract of the cost and plan when is enough? I kept my last car about 15 years, each repair was very high, but I did love the car...then it dropped parts while driving, so I did sell it and buy a new model.

I have a tree in one run. I used welded wire on top of my runs which are chain link and nailed the wire where i cut it to the tree. Seems to work well.
I never like to recommend netting but it should be ok if someone is around i guess. Hawks can be very persistent. I had 2 instances of hawks breaking windows to get at chickens! After that i cover them with hardware cloth!
