The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Tho, they would need enough to submerge their heads in, but not swim.
So a heated dog dish would suffice? That is what the chickens are drinking out of at the moment. If deeper is needed, the alpacas have a heated bucket, perhaps that would be a more appropriate size?

Anyone put one of these on their Christmas wish list?

DW would not want me to order one of those, nor whatever that animal is that appears to be eating her.

I'm gonna work on training her, but we don't have many visitors very often, so our animals are wary of strangers.....being naturally protective, a german shepherd will guard what is considered theirs and with modern day liability what it is, I don't need any problems, but strangers best beware....and to her family will be strangers too, until she is around them for a bit.
So I guess it is good that I won't be dropping in unannounced any time soon.

We have several 3gal buckets that we use for water, with the goats and ducks.....this is what we use inside with them at nite.... IMAG2852.jpg ...it is about 5 1/2" deep and holds around 2-2.5gals. So, the problem wouldn't be if they would use it, but if the other animals would drink after them....chickens will....but, they will dip their head and then shake it...just like a dog does and sling water every where. Ya can put the water inside a tub with an access door cut into an end and limit the area that it is slung too. If the food is close to the water they will get a few pellets and then get a drink, another bite of pellets and another drink, and so on....it isn't as bad if ya put some distance between them....but, not a long distance. How is the water system working in those temps?

Haven't used it yet. I figure to save it until walking down carrying water is a problem. You know like when there is a bunch of that white stuff that fell all over the south today or ice. So far we've been going over freezing most days so I only have to carry it from the spigot on the north side of the house instead of from the kitchen.

Have a good trip to get Gabbie tomorrow :ya

Evening Friends :hugs

Big day in the garden again and I am so very pleased with the results….

The fish ponds, still under construction but getting there. From the top of the stairs:

The ferns are just two of the ones I 'rescued' from the garden. To be positioned around the ponds when finished.

Before: You can not see them very well in the picture but there was years worth of fallen palm nuts, some of which were growing, piled up under the palm and it took me many hours to dig and shovel them all out. If you look closely on the before, you can only see light through half of the front fence which gives you an idea of how high the pile was.

And one of the side of the house. Sadly I did not get before pictures on this one which I finished not long after I got here; suffice to say, it looked pretty much the same as the rest of the garden and it was a big job clearing out years of weeds and neglect:
