Good morning-after-Christmas!! Yesterday was a blast - good food and lots of it, Little Diane here, we got to know Pete a little better, and Kendra almost had a little energy. She spent Christmas Eve in the ER, but her labs came back with no glaring problems. She opened a couple of gifts, then just sat on the couch watching everyone else. My daughter Tam can't cook. She knows it, she's said it. She can throw a meal together for her and Evan and they survive, but a holiday meal? Nope! So I did the baked beans, orange cup sweet potatoes, cheese ball, mashed potatoes and ham. Then we wrapped it all up in big bath towels, Little Diane and Pete loaded the gifts into theirs, and we became the Christmas Express train, driving 8 miles over to Tammy's through the snowstorm in 5 degree temps. Kenny and Jenny made the orange salad and shrimp dip, but they aren't unpacked or organized enough to do much else yet. This was all a lot easier when Tam lived 2 blocks down instead of in another town!

Today is "Pie Day". I cut up the rest of the ham when we got home last night, and Ken is making rolls, we'll put out leftover and condiments and just piece all day, then have desserts. I LOVE pie day. It's so relaxed and just a nice way to calm things down. So they'll all be here around 2. My pies are ready, Pete made tiramisu (whatever that is) Tam made a pound cake, and the coffee pot won't run dry.

I am so glad that you were with me again this Christmas!

Coffee soaked ladyfingers, mascarpone and whipped creme. My Dad's favorite dessert.

SEE what happens when you stay away too long? I didn't know that Tam and Evan had moved (or I somehow missed it or forgot ;) ). 8 miles - Byron or Lovell??
 
They're in Byron. They moved there in April. I think you just forgot, because I'd posted before-and-after shots of the house she bought. Normally we just take the Sandhill Road from here to her place, but when the roads are snow covered and icy that's just not a good idea. So we have to go all the way around.

Kendra hasn't felt very much like herself for days. I think it's the new medicine they have her on, and the reason Jen took her in to the ER is because there was a bit of a rash behind her ear and down her neck. One of the most serious side effects of Lamectil is a rash that can be life threatening, and can turn into Stevens-Johnson's Syndrome. Naturally by the time she got her there, the rash had faded to next to nothing, but they are going to keep a close eye on it. Jenny told them "If one red dot comes back, we will be parked here until you can figure something out!" At this point stopping the Lamectil suddenly can be just as serious, and none of her neurologists from Denver have called back yet. Suppose that's because it's the holiday time. They started her on the lowest possible dose, and have been increasing it slowly. There was another increase 5 days ago, so a reaction isn't out of the realm of possibility. Jen has cut her back to the pre-increase dose but Kendra is still lethargic, almost zombie-like at times. The problem with seizures is that finding the right dose of the right medicine or combination of medicines is a crap-shoot, and the patient usually feels like crap until it's reached. But her seizures were becoming more grand-mal like so we have to do something.

Never having tasted tiramisu, I'll probably stick to a good plate full of Chunklin Pie and call it good. But at least now I know what's in it, instead of hearing "It's a surprise - you'll like it" when he was banging stuff around in the kitchen and I was banned from there until he was done!

One of my presents this year is a proofer. It is also a yogurt, cheese maker and a slow cooker. I used it to raise yeast raised pancakes this morning and will likely make Greek yogurt first.

Loved every minute of 'IT'! N F C Thank you for the link. I did post early in the piece and have been lurking ;)

We had a lovely dinner and evening. Our neighbour, who is French, is a really nice guy and I thoroughly enjoyed chatting to him and adore his accent, I could listen to him all day. Hubby did an awesome job on the turkey, crisp on the outside but still nice and juicy; delicious :drool

Hubby loves Boxing Day more than Christmas Day .. the Boxing Day Test [cricket] starts today, Australia V England so he is glued to the radio.

I am having a relaxing day today also, going to give the girls the rest of their vol-au-vents, water the lawn and not much else :p Leftover turkey, ham, salad, cherry pie and trifle on the menu today so no cooking.

It is Christmas evening for most of you? I hope so very much that you all had a wonderful day :hugs
