Near as I can tell it has stunk since about the day it started. I'm pretty sure that contractor won't be giving @CapricornFarm as a reference for future work.
Very true!! I don't think I would ever recommend them.

The new electrician guy said he was having trouble getting paid. No wonder, the guy in charge never works and everyone else only works part time. How can you live on that?
Lady across the street had the same problem - they were putting up a second story on her house AND making a basement apartment for her mother. The guy in charge never showed up either. The others were also part time, and when he wouldn't pay they would take other jobs. She had to sue him and also hire electrician, plumber, etc.etc. on her own and pay them. She was crying all the time she was so upset.
It took so long to finish, Her mom died shortly after she was able to move into her very nice apartment - separate furnace and air conditioning, kitchen, bedroom , full bath and and living room area.

Has the electrician finished? If not I suggest Hubby puts on his big boy pants and takes over a little. Tell the electrician he will pay him directly. Take that much out of whatever he eventually is to pay the general contractor. A GC usually takes up to 20% for his services which include finding the subcontractors, making sure the work is being done right and paying them. Yours doesn't deserve much since he's not been around checking the work and apparently hired pretty incompetent people to do the actual work. The new electrician guy said he was having trouble getting paid.
