@sunflour love the rooster sitting on top of the pole! Congrats on the (maybe) new egg layer. It's been so long since my girls have laid, I think I'll consider them all new egg layers when/if they start up again.

Thanks - was gonna get a weather vane, but thought it would be too tall and difficult to attach to a 10 foot tall pole....this one just has 3 screws on the attached fence top hardware, so DH didn't have to climb all the way to the top of the ladder.

Really won't know if all 4 are laying til we see 4 eggs, but the egg was smaller than what we have been getting and looks very different. And I'm pretty sure she's the one who sang forever before and after laying the egg.

We can't get heat pads like that here anyway - only seed mats (at great expense) or reptile ones.

Oh come on, NO ONE in New Zealand or Australia ever needs a heating pad for their human selves???

Pretty sure our power plugs are different. Annoyingly!

@Teila that spider is nasty looking, I also first thought it was a crab that was out of the water. Apparently they are not aggressive toward humans nor particularly dangerous from a toxicity perspective (phew!). Also saw this:

BTW, I think my 4th Wellie laid her first egg while we were working out there yesterday . Not positive since the 2 smaller ones look so much alike, but the egg is a lot different than those we have been getting, a lot of small brown dots

Time for another "whose Wellie will lay first" competition! Veronica laid 2 days ago, first egg since 12/20. Maybe she has decided it is almost spring, time to get back to work. Betty hasn't laid since 12/13.

3 of mine have laid regularly since they started, but the smallest gal as far as I can tell has never laid at all...so you won already, since all of yours are definitely laying

@JaeG I had to go find the post you referred to and it was brutal. I dropped my two cents in along with a welcome at the bottom. Had so many new folks yesterday I didn't have time to troll other forums seeking them out. Now I wish I had.

On the topic of electricity, are you folks 220 or 110? If memory serves you use the European standard which is 220 with two round pins in the plug.

All we got done yesterday was positioning the net supporting ropes - lost a lot of time having to go to buy more and moving them around multiple times to get the spacing somewhat even. Have screw eyes on the tree trunk - will have long pieces left over to use there once DH gets the cords tied and cut. And then to hang that trick, tacky looking netting

If you hang crepe paper it will look like a festive may pole!

On the topic of electricity, are you folks 220 or 110? If memory serves you use the European standard which is 220 with two round pins in the plug.

Like I would know! Had to look that one up! We are 220 and the site I found said we can adapt most 110 US appliances, but that some of your appliances use 220 so that's just bad luck (for some reason it's not the same as NZ's 220).

I found a pet heat pad here but that was $85NZD (which works out at about $62USD)! Things are expensive here!

I'm a byc addict as well as a chicken addict. I live on 99 acres with my spouse, 2 pigs, 4 buckeye hens & a roo, and 3 cats. 60 acres of my land is alfalfa.

Yes, most things are from overseas. We even have Aussie beef in the supermarket - all our good, home grown stuff gets sent overseas because they can make more out of it. Seems crazy. Even stuff that is made here like dairy products, meat, fresh produce - we still have to pay the 'international market value' for. Anyway, we are a little country and our horticulture, dairy and meat farming are our biggest earners.
