My garden will be the garlic capital of my "farm" ;) assuming they grow. Never tried before but planted some in October.

Castroville, CA is the artichoke capital! My garden will be that capital here as well this year. Bought 2 plants 2 years ago and they did OK so I bought 6 last year. They are annuals here, my aunt had a couple of HUGE plants in Mill Valley, CA (just north of S.F.).
Asparagus is grown in the Delta. Both artichokes and Asparagus are great because they grow back each year. Asparagus is just coming in here at the stores. I love to roast it with olive oil salt and pepper

We have asparagus here as well, those are perennial. The bed was here when we bought the place, PITA trying to keep all the weeds and grass out. DD1's favorite vegetables are asparagus and artichokes. Both are pretty expensive in the store. Asparagus can get down to $2/pound when they are in season and local. Artichokes? Try $2 EACH and that is when they are super cheap. I choose not to calculate the cost per edible pound of those.

My Mom had artichoke in the front yard decorative plants. They are very pretty! and have the added benefit of tasty veggies too

Yeck. Do not like the flavor or texture.
I do not like asparagus steamed or boiled. Roasted and still crunchy is great for texture.

Flavor is better but if you do not like it there is not much to change that! I am the same way with most Melons. I like watermelon but not the others

The only way I've had artichokes is in a dip. You guys are making me think I'm missing something.
Usually the dip uses pickled artichokes. Fresh artichokes are a lot different. It is kind of like pickled beats vs fresh beats
