The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Leaves, shavings, straw, mulch, whatever you can get.

Thanks! I thought of leaves but don't want to have to rake them up haha and it's not even so much lazy, I don't know that we have a good container or wheelbarrow so it takes longer in small batches. I think I could find one though. Maybe a trash barrel or trash bag would work? Or maybe I could rale them onto a big tarp and drag that over? With all the woods we have and all the pine trees, there is plenty of free "forest floor" material haha that might be best. And it would give them something to scratch and/or eat too as opposed to just sand or straw.

Although aren't wet leaves slippery?

My female cat has become roly poly since her spay. And her son, who is not a year yet is getting pudgy too. But he was neutered too so maybe that is the problem.

They say that spaying or neutering doesn't make animals gain weight but who knows, with less hormones and/or less active it might. Or with the hormone shift/imbalance after. I mean, I don't really get how they can say it doesn't. I do wonder if there's any actual proof it doesn't. Haha

Although that said, it could also be a lot of things.

For instance, their diet and activity level.

What are they eating? That can influence it for sure. And do they exercise? Maybe getting some cat toys and playing with them would help.

Got Gator some oatmeal shampoo and conditioner. I was gonna get the unscented one with his skin the way it is but the store only had the vanilla almond conditioner and I didn't wanna get one unscented and one scented so I just got the vanilla almond one. Plus I read the ingredients and the scent was a natural scent (just vanilla and almond extracts) rather than artificial/fake scent so I decided it was safe and wouldn't hurt or irritate him. Plus I'd rather have him smell nice after a bath anyway lol

Now, just have to wait for the weather to warm up enough to actually bathe him. I think it's supposed to be 48 and sunny next Friday so maybe then.

But yeah.

The unscented one hah

I also almost bought one of these ones and the ingredients on that are also basic/limited but I wanted to try this natural/less powerful one first.

Leaves can be slippery when wet but my run is partly covered. You can add stuff from the coop to the run when you clean it out.
The cats have dry food out all the time. I give them a small can of wet food once at night, which they share. They do exercise, usually when i am trying to sleep they chase and roll and rumble, climb the scratch tower and run up and down stairs. Ooh, they are fighting right now! But our house is like a giant playground for them. They climb up into the rafters which are big logs like telephone poles and run around about 12 feet off the ground. But they lay around a lot during the day, especially if the wood stove is burning.

Hmm well slippery leaves are better than mud I suppose! Haha

And ah okay sometimes the type of food can do it too. For instance, Luna used to be on Meow Mix and was always hungry, ate all the time, and kind of a little porker honestly lol, until I switched her to a better food. Now I usually try for grain free and high protein.

Although she's still slightly a porker lol wants a can all the time! I don't give her one every night though. But she will beg just the same hah

They say supposedly wet food is better for cats but idk. I don't want her begging too much so I don't give them that often.

And wow that sounds like the perfect place for a cat! I guess exercise is not the issue lol

Evening All :hugs

Playing catch up!

Cap I am hoping so much for a good outcome for you! :fl

Jae Sorry to hear about hubby’s back; I hope he recovers quickly.

Kelsey I hope Gator gets better quickly also!

Nice egg basket DMC!

Busy day here also. We managed to get in to Ingham after telephoning and confirming that the couple of shops we needed to go to were open and accessible. So much water everywhere! When we left the village, water was just starting to cross the road [possibly cutting us off] so we made it a quick trip and home again. When we got back to the village, the water level had increased so we may just get cut off and not be able to go back tomorrow for a big shop; we shall see.

Mowed the lawns; killed some weeds, cleaned the coop and cleaned the debris out of the fish ponds which the strong winds had deposited. It was actually a nice day today, sunny at times and no rain.

I feel bad for him because he's so scratchy but also he's so ugly these days :lau

I can say that because he's my own dog lol

But with the pointy head and now huge bald spots and thinning hair he looks quite.... interesting. :lau

But hopefully the meds will help him and hopefully soon.

I need to get better pictures tomorrow but it's really hard to photograph because he won't stay still and also hard to get the lighting right. Especially indoors.

But here is somewhat of an idea of what he looks like right now.

When he puts his head down the whole bald patch shows but he doesn't do that for long. Tomorrow maybe. But yeah.

Being a good boy in a little wooded patch at the vet's until we can go in. And his leg. You can also somewhat see the hair loss and color change around his mane/neck

Sounds just like my 3 cats.
