I love to dry my own herbs.... And I love using fresh.

At least fish would be fine with not eating for a couple of weeks if the post is slow.
Our last cockatiel went to its new home today so our four can relax. (Our boys were getting a bit jealous with the young upstart showing off to their girls). Dottie (one of the girls) was rocking out to Avril Lavigne's Sk8ter Boi song. It was the funniest thing! She was flapping and throwing her head around - really dancing. She's such a madam - if she doesn't want to get off my shoulder she will grab the finger of whoever is trying to get her off and push them away.

After hearing about Cap's delivery issues I have an idea...
People travel all the time. Why not create a thread in which people can post where they're travelling while others post where they need eggs/chicks/birds delivered to?
I think they tried to set up something years ago where chicken folks ferry birds, chicks, ducks, whatever to some one , and maybe coming back pick up something for themselves.
Can't recall but, I don't think connections were worked out often enough or not many
folks participating.
Good evening friends
Huge, hot day but I will get to that later; first is catch up.

Happy birthday to your hubby Debby
Aaaw gees Cap, I am sorry that you are being stuffed around and risk losing your babies![]()
Aaaw , love the bunnies!
Bunnylady your plushies are adorable!
Today we went for a trip in to town, then I came home and cleaned the coop and then harvested parsley, sage, chives and basil which are all now in the dehydrator. Then I planted some coriander, Italian parsley, thyme and oregano.

@Teila the new shutters look good! They must help keep things cooler. Congrats on Audrey's pup
@CapricornFarm cute little rabbits!
@JaeG loved the rocking Dottie, is she particular about the music that moves her?
Morning all
Not at all. I don't expect to find any development and I'm still wondering how she got those eggs there to begin with. The leghorns don't go that far out...
Looks great! I love the herb garden. Way to go Audrey!
Hmmm, it is a bit early for the Easter Bunny to be shuffling eggs around![]()
Chickens have been known to move eggs under their wings.
Got my quail, 17 dead. One alive. Going to the swap to see if i can find it a friend.
That's a shame. There's a lot more members now, so maybe it would be worth a try again.
Aw. Thanks, y'all!![]()
I've thought about it - even got the "all clear" from Nifty to make the ones styled after Tudy - I just need to work out payment and shipping costs. Not that complicated, I know, I just haven't gotten around to it.![]()
Push buttons until it does what you want?![]()
So, I got 4 bantams and a silkie back in January. None of them will leave the coop. The poor silkie is at the very bottom of the pecking order, and spends a lot of time under the nesting boxes.
Last evening when I went down to close everything up for the night everybody was in their usual roosting spot, but the silkie wasn't there. Brave little girl was taking advantage of the peace and quiet, and was having a grand old time out in the run![]()
We'll have to experiment and see if she has a preference. I think she just loved joining in with me and the kids dancing and she was in the mood to be silly.
I just went through all my Watched Threads. I now have a page and a half, pruned down from 7 pages! They soon stack up without you realising.
Cap, I hope you can find your little survivor some friends.
It was the byc chicken train or something like that. Wolf tracks started it. She disappeared from the site through
Lol...trust me, being a bus driver was the last thing I ever thought I'd do! I've never been particularly good with children. It just happened to be a job I could do while still farming. I've really loved it, more than I ever could have imagined. The kids have been the easy part. Spare driving or full-time driving, I've never really had any serious kid moments. I've been more shocked how the kids are used to being treated. A cheerful good morning and recognition by name goes a long way. In 2-3 weeks I can turn a busload of students from giving no greetings to giving cheerful morning and night greetings with a smile!
The part I don't care for is the heavy responsibility and driving spare. Full time is so much easier because it's the same students and usually the same bus. Spare drivers have it the hardest by far. I've been sent out on routes with no map, no time, simply going by what the first student tells me. It's very hard to gauge from that.
And every bus is not always in top condition. I'm liable for everything. I'm very thorough with catching everything but it's getting exhausting. I hadn't planned to continue driving after I resigned, but I live in the middle of two school divisions and the second one picked me up when they heard I was available...lol. I've had too many close calls from irresponsible drivers (mostly semis) Most of the busses I drive are the 66 and 72 passenger buses. It's pretty hard to get out of the way quickly.
Sorry for being no longer relevant. I got behind. Again.![]()
I wouldn’t want your job but glad you like it. My husband has taught me respect for semis. All 3 of my guys drive semi at some point in the year. They can’t just stop either...especially with a full load. This accident the semi was empty or things might have been different. He saw her so was only going 40 or so when bus/van blew the yield. I just asked my sister if there were any updates as she follows the caring bridge site and the last update one of the critical had a stroke.
I agree with you completely about the respecting the semis part. My entire family drive semis as well, both sides actually, and I am legal to drive everything except a semi with a fifth wheel. Our grain truck is a semi-converted to a box and I am legal to drive it. The majority of the public do not understand what is required when it comes to driving a semi. Nor do they seem to care, although we know who the loser would be. I believe part of the driver training course should have a section on the large vehicles so people could be educated.
In my case, it was semis meeting me in my lane on a two-lane highway. I believe the first one fell asleep, the second caught himself from the drift and the last was a very unfortunate individual who decided to proceed into my lane to go around a broken down semi instead of stopping behind and waiting when I'd already entered the area. Technically I shouldn't be here. I'm very lucky I had enough ditch to save the day because all times were during winter. The last time it happened, the entire load of students was on and I had the mother of one of the kindergarteners and 3 heavy rig trucks behind me. I'm not usually the type to get misty, and I managed to hold it together until I unloaded those students...but I cried all the way home. It was that close. Someone was lookin' down that day.
Oh no...hopefully it was not a severe stroke. How awful.![]()
Unfortunately with the trip to the post office and back home, i got there late. By 10 am everything was sold except a turkey. Didn't think he would be a good match for her!
Holy cow, you gave me goosebumps! I only remember one bad bus accident while I was in school. Someone hit it and actually tipped it over. It was from my school district at the time. My cousin got hurt but I don’t remember if anyone else did. Thank goodness for bus drivers like you! I agree on the drivers training thing. I just said that to hubby yesterday.
You're always relevant Wicked! And it sounds like you're a top-notch bus driver, the school kids & their families are fortunate![]()
I did meet a guy at the swap today who sells baby quail. So if mine don't hatch, then i can get some from him.
Solo(my juvie quail that survived the trip ) seems to be doing ok. Not running around or peeping. But just standing around. She has eaten and drank the water with vitamins, electrolytes in it. Hoping she will hang in there!
Me too. Of course then she would need a new name.
Thankfully the Coturnix are better at being alone than Buttons who can die of loneliness and are very noisy if kept alone. Solo might call loudly every now and then once she's feeling betterbut she'll be ok until you can get her some company.
Good Morning Friends
Debby yes, the shutters will certainly help with the afternoon sun which no long beats in to the lounge and dining rooms.
Cap![]()
That is so very sad! I hope that Solo survives!
I compared my dehydrated parsley to some that we had purchased from the store ... no comparison really. The home made one is so much greener and aromatic than the store bought
Typical Sunday for me .. finish housework, washing, grocery shopping and then pottering in the garden. Only the under cover plants need watering due to the fact that we had some rain overnight with showers and/or tropical storms predicted for pretty much the rest of the week.
@Teila the difference you saw is one of the best arguments for growing & drying your own...it's fresh! Who knows how long that stuff in the store has been around. Way to go!
Boo!! Oh, wait...wrong holiday......
I love to dry my own herbs.... And I love using fresh.
Maybe the bags were airlocked/vacuum sealed and that's why you couldn't feel the kibble and the ones that you could feel, the seal had broken.. That's the case with coffee. If it's not a brick, don't buy it.Finally caught up lol we went to Cape Cod today though we didn't leave till like 1:30 or 2 lol
But we went to one of the Agway down there and it is huge and they have tons of the expensive, good quality dog foods, way more than ours, probably cause of all the tourists?
And they carry Zignature, a brand I've fed Gator before but have recently started feeding again. And it's $5-$10, even $12 on one flavor, cheaper than Chewy.com! I love Chewy and they used to be the cheapest around but ever since they have become more well known and having color flyers and TV ads and stuff, they have been increasing their prices on some products. And within the last week or so Zignature has taken a huge spike up!! It's always somewhat fluxuated so hopefully it will go down again but REALLY!? And Amazon used to be $10 cheaper too but they've recently increased to match Chewy! But this store is still the price they used to be, and should be. So anyway, they also had a $5 off coupon going on so I got an expensive flavor I normally wouldn't try. It's already $12 cheaper than Chewy plus with the $5 off coupon it put it more in the range of the other flavors. So it was a great deal. My dad actually just ordered a big bag from Chewy of another flavor. I had gotten 3 small bags to try and we are almost out of the third one which he seems to love so ordered a big bag. Came down here to see if they had another brand and just for fun. Originally was thinking of maybe returning the other bag from Chewy and buying the same flavor here but decided to just try a different, more expensive flavor I normally wouldn't try. So now we should be all set on food for a while haha.
Also another odd thing is some bags seemed frozen? Not just on this brand but others. Some the label was all wrinkled and you felt it and it was hard as a rock, couldn't hear kibble moving, but figured it was a fluke and supposed to be like that, but I felt other bags where you could feel the kibble moving around. Must have sat in a truck or warehouse?
Anyway, they didn't have the other brand I liked. Well, they did but only the puppy formula. I meant to ask if they had any other flavors but decided not to. Our local Agway (called Morrison's though) has lots of NutriSource (the brand) products but the only grain free ones are Seafood Select and Chicken and Pea. He loves the Lamb and Pea flavor. I could try the chicken though. Chewy stopped carrying NutriSource last yearit's on Amazon but way more expensive than I remember paying. But according the NutriSource website there are several retailers/distributors around me so I think I will drive around to a few or call and see if they carry his favorite flavor. But for now we have plenty of food.
Anyway, we also found out they have a rewards program for all 3 of the Cape Cod Agways (doesn't include Morrison's) and you get points and free bags of food and stuff. So we signed up. But I didn't notice the free bag of food thing till after we checked out so we had to go back and sign up after we checked out so I don't know if today's purchase counts.
But there's like probably 10 brands or so maybe more where you get a free bag of food after so many. One is Zignature too! The other is Earthborn Holistics, also a good brand. Some are a free bag after buying 10 bags and some are after 12 bags. Zignature is 12 bags.
Of course you have to drive all the way down there but it is not that far away and if you get a free bag every year (or more often if you stock up and buy a lot at once haha) AND on top of that, is quite a lot cheaper than Chewy, then it is worth the drive.
We also drove around the Cape a little bit and we even found an adorable ice cream parlor that was open so of course we had to stop lol
The eggs are due to hatch the same day i have my biopsy, the 20th. May hatch early as it was running hot to start with. Not sure about mixing quail of different ages, but i can put her in half of the duplex cage and them in the other half. I keep looking for quail on CL, but they are all too far away. How much longer do you have until the quail eggs are due to hatch? I'm keeping my fingers crossed Solo soon has lots of company![]()
I went out and checked on her a couple of hours ago. She was sitting on the ramp near the 60 watt bulb i put in, in case she was still stressed from her ordeal. Her feathers are not ruffled any more, she is looking better!Thankfully the Coturnix are better at being alone than Buttons who can die of loneliness and are very noisy if kept alone. Solo might call loudly every now and then once she's feeling betterbut she'll be ok until you can get her some company.
I had Rocky Road tonight. That is the last of the ice cream. I am giving up my favorite chocolates, mallow cups. Already gave up soda. Trying to cut back sugar. That sucks too. But i need to lose weight. What flavor did you get? Cone or sundae or shake/malt. I need to know![]()
