The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

I used to have a non-stop broody in the FL flock. I finally resorted to using the broody buster cage with a hardware cloth bottom and got some limited results from that. After being in that for a couple days, she'd seem to be over it but within a week or two, she'd be back to her old broody self. I gave up and re-homed her to a friend that said she wanted her for sitting on fertile eggs.
I had a buff like that last year... fox ate her. I felt bad she was eaten but didn’t miss her nastiness.

Yep, we have 2 folks taking off way too much time, so back to being scheduled too many days in a row.

Bitty does come out a couple of times a day with encouragement - but I did have to give her water one evening in the nest. I think this will be her 3rd week so hopefully she'll get over it soon...but if not may have to use some of the broody breaking ideas :(

TSC has chicks. "Just sayin'."

Good morning!! Busy day yesterday - had to go up to Billings and of course that means shopping (which I hate, by the way) and lunch, plus almost 2 hours driving up there and 2 hours back. Ken could shop all day. He likes to browse and compare and all that junk. Me, I know what I want, I find it, if it's worth it I buy it, then I'm out of there. But the lunch? Ah, the lunch!!

Had to stop in at TSC yesterday so Ken could get the lawn fertilizer he likes to use. I was good - I looked at the chicks, listened to a total stranger extol the virtues of MHP to a bewildered clerk, and he was soon joined by another woman who agreed with him and said she'd done it last year and would never use anything else but Mama Heating Pad again. Nothing like a little smug feeling walking out of a store! And no, I didn't buy anything.

It seems so funny to read so many of us fighting snow and then see others talking about "tropical storm" chances. But the recurring theme seems to be "duck and cover!" :lau

Scored a bunch of free risers yesterday. They'll work well for footings on my coops.

@Blooie you feel the same way about shopping as I do. We should let the DH's go together and you & I go...I'm sure we'd be done hours before the guys

DH drove to Casper Friday for just a "quick trip". He left home at 6:30am and didn't get home until 5:00pm. I know it takes about 4 hours driving round trip but I also know how he shops...go to 3 stores, compare prices, then go back to the 1st store. Drives me nuts. :barnie

That must have been great hearing others chatting up MHP at TSC! Next thing you know, it will be featured in farm magazines and the Mother Earth website. :D
