Here's what I mean about windy Wyoming...

I've mentioned before that we have a company house. There's another one sort of next to us that is used a few months out of the year for company interns.

DH was saying this morning he heard things hitting the house during the night and figured it was the usual debris (small sticks, pebbles, etc.). This morning when he walked to his truck, I heard him yell "Holy s****!" so I ran out to see what he was yelling about. This tree in front of the intern house blew down last night! It came down within about 10' from hitting the front of our house...that sidewalk you see in the 1st picture goes around the back of our house.

A bit too close for comfort!

Ah Deb, I thought you were going to say the WY wind was so strong it bent the tree down to the ground but it would pop back up when the wind died back!!

Sure glad it missed your house. And yep, looks like you could use some green there!! Of course so could we. The alpacas are nibbling something, no idea what. Had 4 deer in the field 2 evenings ago doing the same thing. 8 in the neighbors field last evening. I guess they are finding SOMETHING since they hang around until dark.

Those big trees like that are very scary when they fall!

Apologies in advance for all the pictures which may be boring for some.

Huge day in the garden again today ..... chipped away at the palms, only 3 to go now behind the girls. With the undergrowth gone, there will be less mosquitoes and more breeze while still retaining shade.

Repotted and popped a pink elephant ear under the avocado tree; along with a pink yucca. Repotted a pup from another elephant ear.

The desert rose I bought when I did not know it was a desert rose just bought it because I liked it .. popped it in to the ground today from the pot it was in. No idea what colour it is yet:

Remember the little Sunbird who has been building a nest on a piece of string hanging under the house and whom I have been trying to catch on camera? Ta Da! Today he was picking chicken feathers off the run wire to use to line the nest

It's looking beautiful! Love those desert roses. I hear you on the mosquitoes. Around the stormwater culvert that goes through our backyard it was so over grown with scrappy trees and bushes and invasive weeds. We took everything out but the tree ferns and a couple of cabbage trees.

That is one pretty birdy too!

That is definitely too close for comfort! There are huge eucalyptus trees on a neighbouring property that are mostly dead. They wouldn't reach our house but they'd get our neighbour's to one side if (when) they fall, and take out the sewerage pipe that spans the culvert. The guy that owns the property has the philosophy that if you think they are a danger you have to pay for taking them down.

I have had a tree fall about 20 feet from me, and i was walking towards it! About face, and run fast! Naturally, it fell on the fence!

I had a huge Oak tree in my back yard in VA. Sturdy and stable... New owners went crazy watering before the winter rains came... With the winter storms come rain, snow and high winds... It took out the deck and about a 1/3rd of the roof. I wasn't particularly fond of the new owners, but still felt for them and was so happy that I was no longer the owner.

These are my babies from the Easter hatch-a-long. They were all snuggled up together yesterday as it was a bit cool in the morning. So cute and just over a week old now.

I've got just a few more eggs in the incubator. Two were already being incubated by a hen but she got upset when I cleaned them out (I didn't realise she was sitting until I was cleaning them out as she's disabled so sits down a lot - she ended up with a slipped tendon as a chick). These two eggs are a bit weird as they are a bit loose at the air cell end and protrude into it if you lay them on their side as you candle. They both seem to still be alive. I sure hope both make it as otherwise I'll have one lonely chick and that's never fun, especially with quail! I have no idea when they are due but it must be soon.

Cabbages grow on trees in New Zealand??

The guy that owns the property has the philosophy that if you think they are a danger you have to pay for taking them down.

Generally speaking, the person who owns the property the tree is on is responsible if it falls. It gets expensive if your tree falls on someone else's house rather than taking it down beforehand.
