The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

These are my babies from the Easter hatch-a-long. They were all snuggled up together yesterday as it was a bit cool in the morning. So cute and just over a week old now.

I've got just a few more eggs in the incubator. Two were already being incubated by a hen but she got upset when I cleaned them out (I didn't realise she was sitting until I was cleaning them out as she's disabled so sits down a lot - she ended up with a slipped tendon as a chick). These two eggs are a bit weird as they are a bit loose at the air cell end and protrude into it if you lay them on their side as you candle. They both seem to still be alive. I sure hope both make it as otherwise I'll have one lonely chick and that's never fun, especially with quail! I have no idea when they are due but it must be soon.
Adorable! Mine are huge!

Cabbages grow on trees in New Zealand??

Generally speaking, the person who owns the property the tree is on is responsible if it falls. It gets expensive if your tree falls on someone else's house rather than taking it down beforehand.

 Apparently that's what the leaves taste like (but they take a bit of cooking). Apparently the early settlers made beer from the root. Wonder what that tasted like?

I actually wish a tree or big branch would fall down and do some damage somewhere to teach him a lesson. He's a self proclaimed 'Greeny' and that's his excuse for not doing anything! I could understand if they were native trees, but they aren't.

Good Morning Friends :hugs

Hey Diva from what I understand, the male sunbird builds the nest and then the female incubates the eggs and raises the babies pretty much on her own. I think I have only seen the male so far.

Thank you folks for the nice comments regarding my garden.

Cap I understand your liking the before pics and the palms do not look too bad with lots of undergrowth and do provide privacy but in our climate that undergrowth is a haven for mosquitoes and other nasties, along with reducing the breeze and making things too dark and jungle-like. The more open and airy we are, the less mosquitoes and snakes we have.

Because of the ‘jungle’ it is not safe to walk downstairs at any time of the day because the mosquitoes will carry you off [not just dusk and dawn] and things need to be opened up a bit. Currently, sitting in the run and feeding the girls meal worms is borderline requiring a transfusion and I am certain they are not happy about being constantly nibbled on.

Wow Deb that IS windy!

As always, beautiful babies Jae! :love

That's the best I could find. There really isn't much funny about mosquitos!
