Good Morning Friends :hugs

Ron the ANZAC Cookies were a good idea, I should have thought of that; will try and remember for next year.

Bruce thank you for the prod of reality :p .......:caf

Diva I am pleased that the Treezilla episode went well :clap

I am in awe of the team that look after our palm trees; so skilled at what they do! Their chipper is impressive and when I mentioned that I think I need one of those; the over $300,000 price tag was kinda deflating

Jae it sounds like things may be progressing in the right direction; I do hope so! :fl

Hey Debby, your news on the restaurant sounds promising :fl ANZAC Day is a little more solemn for some than Happy ANZAC Day, but it also depends on your personal feelings and whether you lost someone. Some just see it as a day off work and others do take the opportunity to commemorate.

We watched the game yesterday but our team was not playing; it was actually fun to watch a game that you do not have a stake in; much more relaxing ;)

It dropped down to 17C [62F] last night which had us reaching for the doona once again and Syba, who does not do ‘cold’ slept on the bed. Hubby, who also does not do ‘cold’ and is affectionately nicknamed ‘Frog’ in winter was complaining this morning that it was “freezing” .. it was 22C [71.5F] at the time! LOL Me? I am loving it!! :clap

Ok, I finally had to look up "doona". This is what comes back from a search:

You can't mean that! :gig

It's gotta mean something blanket-like in Australia, right?

I make the ANZACS cookies at Christmas. They are a Family Favorite

Good morning :frow

Cold this morning with temp at 22* but it's supposed to warm up to 66*:th That's quite a swing.

Yesterday afternoon DH & I met with the golf course advisory board. The head of the company has made himself a member and when he heard about the restaurant troubles, he said he'll see to it personally that things are ironed out asap! He doesn't care about golf but he loved our food last year and he's anxious to come out to eat :D

@Teila glad you enjoyed your day off! Do people say "Happy Anzac Day"? If so, that's from me to you. Did your team win the game?

Great news

Well "Treezilla," put up quite a fight but, none the less it came down. The crew left enormous pieces of the trunk on my front lawn. It looked like "TreeHenge". Then the man said a truck will be by to pick it up. I didn't believe him. I thought maybe in a month or two.

It actually happened. I heard some loud booms and I figured someone was trying to steal the trunk pieces. Nope it was a very long dump trunk. At the outside/back a man was standing up and operated one of those claw things.

You know the type, you put in 50 cents and have chance to snag a prize but, the claw always drops it. Well this claw didn't drop anything till it let go over the dump trunk.
Wow, there were two pieces of bark on the ground. The guy sent the claw down and it picked it up and dumped it. Show off!! I would have just walked over and picked it up.

Have to say they charged a lot but, did exemplary work - have to ask Sour, if I spelled that right. Not only that I was so busy running up and down to different windows to spy on the tree work, that I forgot to take any of my pills or eat. It was so neat to see a guy climbing on a huge tree, and dropped branches (big ones) with a rope attached so they fell straight down and didn't damage anything.

Then the 3 workers on the ground scrambled to drag it off to the chipper, parked on the street. Everything was so beautifully timed and executed it was a thing of art. After 3 hours the climber came down and started to make cuts in lower trunk. I knew they were going to "fell" it. So Of course when I went to the ladies room, THEN I felt the ground shake and BOOM! I never got to see it fall. But such genius - it fell where it wouldn't damage anything.

I told the crew, it was the most excitement I have had in my life for years. Well it was!!
I love to watch someone who actually knows what they are doing and does it well.

:wee:wee:wee:wee:wee:wee

It's amazing what real pros can do.... Glad it worked out.

Jae, Hope all works out for you.
teila, I absolutely understand those who view it as a solemn event. I had a boss once who insisted that we work on veteran's day... I told him not no but H@ll no! That is a day when I look back and remember all that I've lost. I won't go further here, but let's just say it's significant...

ANZAC cookies are yummy. And yes, ANZAC day is a solemn day with dawn services to commemorate those who never made it home. Shops aren't allowed to open until 1pm, though my DH, who is retail manager of a pool store, still had to go in and open up for the pool techs who were still expected to put in a full days work, so he just stayed and worked all day as he'll get paid time and a half.

@drumstick diva glad to hear "Treezilla" came down without a hitch!

@JaeG home schooling is plenty hard work! Have you started looking for a new place in the area you're interested in?

I'm just keeping an eye on listings on the internet. We haven't gone visiting yet. I don't want to see something I love and miss out, so it's best to wait until we are a bit further along.

Sorry rj, whatever it is! :hugs

Oh and I was gonna say ANZAC Day sounds similar to Veteran's Day here. Although I don't think ours is related to a specific event, is it? I would have to look it up. Sad to say I don't know much about it besides it honors veterans and we get off school

I do know though that Patriot's Day recognizes a specific event. And no it's not the sports team :p

That one is also only celebrated in Massachusetts and Maine (which used to be a part of Massachusetts) and I think it has something to do with the battle of Lexington and Concord but I'm not sure.

We have Remembrance Day. It's the same day as veteran's day.
We used to have a minute's silence at 11am. I don't think anywhere does that anymore.
It occurs on November 11th with commemoration at 11 am as that day and time is when hostilities in the first world war formally came to a halt.
As time goes on we use it as a day to not only honour those who fought in WWI but all who have served.
