How exciting! That all sounds very promising!
It always makes me laugh when people are so serious about 'lockdown' when incubating eggs. When we let our bantams hatch eggs they both got off while the chicks were pipping for a quick break. My little quail was doing exactly the same thing this afternoon - pipping eggs... time for a break (and it wasn't a quick one) before the work really begins!
I had one hatch in the incubator but I didn't want to give it to that hen whose eggs are hatching because she's likely to have some that are the same colour and I can't keep track of who's who. And last time I used food colouring those chicks ended up getting that coloured patch plucked by their father! So, I have another hen sitting on eggs. She's my disabled girl but she loves being a Mum. I gave her the chick - she's flighty so initially moved away but as soon as she realised what I'd put in her nest she came over to talk to the baby then snuggled it under her. It was so sweet! I feel a bit bad that she'll end up abandoning her eggs, and I may fold and put them in the incubator, but it's so much easier when they are raised by an adult. There are 5 other eggs in the incubator so hopefully that's not too many for my little Waddles to take care of (she slipped her tendon as a chick and it couldn't be fixed but she gets along ok).
Cap, that rabbit in your avatar is so cute!
Good luck! It looks great!
