@007Sean, do all of the different breeds need to be raised separately ? That's a lot of pens.
Sour, all but the Reeves chicks can be brooded together, for some reason they will attack other chicks that are not Reeves? As the different species of pheasants I have mature, they are separated in pens of their own species. Usually, I run 1 roo to 6 hens or in some cases, I have a 1 to 12 ratio.
Yep, I have a lot of pens, 22 enclosures with 8 pens each from 300 sq. ft. and up depending on the species. Yeah, alot of work but for me it's worth it...when I get home from a bad day or in my case night of work, I sit outside of the pens and just unwind watching their going-ons.:D

You wouldn't be doing at least half of that up here...it's 27*. Have you seen the WY tourism slogan? "Come to Wyoming and hibernate for 6 months"

You are way colder than we are up here, Debby. It's 51 degrees here, supposed to get up to 79 today and 81 tomorrow. Already got pork chops out of the freezer to grill for supper. Sour, I need your recipe for green potato salad.

Uneventful trip to Douglas yesterday. My diary would read: "Dear Diary, Today I got in the car and sat for 5.5 hours. Then I got out of the car and sat on a rock for 1 hour. Then I got in the car and sat for 5.5 hours. The end." :idunno

They don't look particularly repentant.

You were so busy on BYC you had no time. I have it set to not send me email notifications. Why would I want the work of deleting them all when I come here and read every day?

The solution is quite clear Ron. They need to fly you to England to fix the problem. Seems kinda weird sending Americans to England to teach English.

That sort of job has been disappearing here. All the medical offices are using computers, nothing to transcribe.

Looks nice, I think you should buy it ;)
It is English Literature. The English Department Is Literature studies--Victorian, Medieval, Early American, African American, Irish for example. Some of the Faculty focus on Authors! Bronte, Poe, Hemingway, Mark Twain....We have Faculty that give talks on their subject.

The University Writing Program has a sub program Called ESL, English as a Second Language which helps non native speakers (mostly Chinese here) Learn to Write in English. English is a Department and UWP is a Program...Means something here.

I support both groups

I used to go to peoples houses years ago but that is not a reasonable expectation. More than have of the Faculty live far away from Davis in the Bay Area. That takes a couple of hours to get to and I can't do that.

How exciting! That all sounds very promising! :woot

It always makes me laugh when people are so serious about 'lockdown' when incubating eggs. When we let our bantams hatch eggs they both got off while the chicks were pipping for a quick break. My little quail was doing exactly the same thing this afternoon - pipping eggs... time for a break (and it wasn't a quick one) before the work really begins!

I had one hatch in the incubator but I didn't want to give it to that hen whose eggs are hatching because she's likely to have some that are the same colour and I can't keep track of who's who. And last time I used food colouring those chicks ended up getting that coloured patch plucked by their father! So, I have another hen sitting on eggs. She's my disabled girl but she loves being a Mum. I gave her the chick - she's flighty so initially moved away but as soon as she realised what I'd put in her nest she came over to talk to the baby then snuggled it under her. It was so sweet! I feel a bit bad that she'll end up abandoning her eggs, and I may fold and put them in the incubator, but it's so much easier when they are raised by an adult. There are 5 other eggs in the incubator so hopefully that's not too many for my little Waddles to take care of (she slipped her tendon as a chick and it couldn't be fixed but she gets along ok). :fl

Cap, that rabbit in your avatar is so cute! :love

Good luck! It looks great!
Thanks, i went to buy a buck but when i saw her i fell in love! 20180425_152132.jpg

Do pheasants go broody?

Ok, I'm off to Google Images to look up most of those! That's interesting about the Reeves. How much space do pheasant chicks need and are they quite flighty? I'd love some Mongolians but they are very rare here so very expensive - I've only seen the odd adult for sale. I think the Goldens are a good place to start except one child likes the Reds and one likes the Yellows (they are going with what their favourite colours are of course).

They are so gorgeous! Are they the Lionhead Rabbits? There's someone in NZ trying to bring them in.

It's a rainy day here - I'm putting off going out to feed the chickens but I don't think it's getting any better anytime soon. Waddles now has two chicks (and yes, I did put her eggs in the incubator after swearing to myself I wouldn't) and there's one more egg looking hopeful so she'll probably get a third. I got a fright before I'd seen them out and about as in the shavings there was something that looked like a dead chick. I though, oh, no, it's wandered off in the dark and not been able to find her again. When I picked it up it wasn't a dead chick - just an enormous pile of broody poop! :lau:sick The other hen has hatched all but one of her eggs and I added one more that's a different colour. I'll try and get some photos but it's such a dark, rainy day that the light is not ideal. Looks like we are in for a few days of this weather too. :hmm
