The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Howdy all
Been busy preparing for a fight with our county. It has been proposed to the council that I build a township road for them and change the access to my property. It's been recommended that our development permit be denied if I don't do it. Going to argue my case at council meeting on Thursday.
Only 1 of the dozen hatching eggs I bought made it to hatch. I've got a cute little buff chantecler chick, but its legs are pretty splayed. I'm not sure that the broodies are going to mother it. I've got 10x2 week olds in the brooder, so I can't put it in there, as they'll trample it. Temps here dropped down to freezing last night, so I can't put the big ones in the grow out pen as there's no heat and they're not fully feathered yet. So, I guess I'll just let mother nature take its course.

I hope the council meeting goes Well!

Shipped eggs can be a booger to hatch. I am sad when only one hatches though. I hope the legs heal up quickly. It usually take a couple of days

I'm gonna be just plain rude here Michelle. When they tell you to pay for the road that they want because they want you to change your access, tell them to go perform a specific impossible sex act.

I can't believe they are even suggesting this, they probably want you to maintain it as well.

Sorry about the single chick :(

I hope so too.
Luckily, the eggs weren't shipped. I bought them at a "critter market ". I actually think I would have had better luck with shipped eggs.

You got it Bruce!
They're citing potential flooding as the reason they want me to change the access. Funny considering that where they want me to build this road is marsh.

And just how often DOES the current access flood?

VERY funny. Especially since here it is very hard to get permission to build anything in a marsh or wetland. Unless of course there is tax money to be made, then miracle of miracles they let the big developer "create" an equivalent somewhere else. Sorry but mankind can not create a wetland equal to what nature created hundreds if not thousands of years ago.

There is a culvert that runs from the west side, underneath the highway to my property (on the east side). With quick melts, like this year, it overflows causing my hay fields to become very wet, but not flooded. The actual access, which they are speaking of, has never flooded.

My neighbour that now lives across the road, used to live at the corner of the highway & where the county wants me to build. She wanted to pasture her horses in there and the county told her no. The area had to remain in its natural, undisturbed state. There is a reservation at the east end of my property. One of the band members approached the county about building up this easement in order to gain access to the reservation. The county again said no. So now, they've got 2 unsuspecting suckers that they can get to build it for them (in their eyes anyway).

I hope so too.

I think i am going to start asking name and phone number when i buy hatching eggs. Tell them its because i might want to buy more.
