The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

That is an awesome story!!

I wonder why so many birds are starting earlier this year? I think I'm going to give them the fish today though. Speaking of which, how much fish can they have in a week? I don't want the birds or the eggs to get mercury poisoning. I got 2 cans of mackerel and 2 big cans of salmon. Was thinking maybe I should spread it out over a couple weeks? Or maybe give them some fish, some liver and eggs, so it's not all fish?

Around here they would still have a job because they have people go collect the carts from the corrals and bring them in the store every night.

That's awesome! Good luck with the hatch! I had a broody chicken, she was constantly broody, went broody like 5 or 6 times last year, and if she went broody again, I was going to let her hatch this spring but then I lost her in the fall to a hawk. :( she was my favorite chicken, very sweet and not a mean broody like some, and I think she would have made a good mother. She was a Buff Orpington but she was the teeniest little thing lol

How awesome! Good find!

Funny the shopping cart discussion should pop up! I just gave a lesson in handicapped accessible parking to a young guy and his lady at Walmart yesterday. I have had a handicapped placard for my car for about 10 years now. Then of course when Kendra was born, the kids had to get one for their vehicles as well to accommodate her wheelchair.

Anyway, this young couple came whipping into the crosshatched area just to the right of the handicapped space on their bike like I wasn't even standing there loading my car. I must have jumped 10 feet straight up into the air. He parked it, they got off, and as he took off his helmet he shot me a cocky "Scared you, didn't I, Old Lady?" look. Oh, oh, dude - you just pi33ed off Blooie. So I just smiled at him and this is how the conversation went from there:

Me: So, like that bike do ya?
Him: Yeah, I do.
Me: Well, say good bye to it. Gonna have it ticketed and towed.
Him: Try it. No reason to so they can't do it.
Me: That crosshatched area you are parked in is for wheelchair ramps. The side door comes down, forms a ramp, and a disabled person can wheel themselves safely from the van into that area without hitting another car. It also allows space for them to remotely put that ramp down and approach it straight in, without having to maneuver themselves into a tight spot and try to turn to get a run at it. So it's actually designed as part of the handicapped parking spaces.
There was a long pause as he looked at the crosshatching in relation to the space, then looked at the other handicapped spaces and saw they all had the same thing on both sides of them.
Him: Lady, are you asking me to move my bike?
Me: Nope, I'm telling you to move your bike and what I plan to do if you don't. I'm old, I got nothing but time to wait for the cops to get here. I keep hearing that we car drivers have to be observant and courteous to motorcycles - seems to me that should go two ways.

They got back on and he moved his bike. A minute later, as we put the last of our stuff in the car, some old dude came along, shoved his shopping cart into the crosshatched area, and left. Tam and I just looked at each other. <sigh> By then the young couple had parked and were walking past our car to the store. He looked at me, gave me a wink, and took that shopping cart in with him. There is always hope! :wee
Woo hoo! You go Blooie!
I bet he'll point it out to others in the future.

I am just procrastinating today. I was going to go shopping today but i can't seem to get my rear in gear. If i don't move, my back doesn't hurt. Pretty sure it is just muscular, not as painful as a bad disc.
I was going to water the flowers but they predict rain later today, so why bother?
Maybe i will shop locally after lunch.

I was like that for 2 straight days but then today I had to walk Libby. I think I got a little dehydrated or sun poisoning after Warped though even though I drank and ate a ton

Thank you for the info. Was helpful but I do not see fish on there?
It does not matter what the treat is, do not give them more of anything other than chicken feed that they will not eat in 20 minutes. The 20 minutes is for the day

This avoids the 10% rule for treats which is hard to figure out

Ohhh okay, that makes sense! Must have missed that part. Thanks! Treata usually last way longer than 20 minutes, at least when I give them lots of veggies. Fish and BOSS and stuff gets eaten very quickly.

Perfect!

I really like the 20 minute guideline in that article.

Yeah, it's definitely a good one! But question: is giving them veggies and fruits still okay? I don't give them often but sometimes like a bag of lettuce or some old peppers or something but sometimes it takes a couple hours but is usually always gone by roost time. Is that okay or should I cut back? I guess I just don't really particularly see the difference in giving them a bunch one day then no more for a while versus less of it but every day or for a few days till it's gone? It's the same amount of veggies, no? But maybe I am overthinking ha I don't really give them much anymore, just if we stuff on the verge of going bad but still safe
