The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Okay, the heck with everything - Grand Lodge, traveling, Tam and Evan living here.....the heck with everything!!! Something happened here today that, to me, is more monumental than any of it!

I’ve got the girls today. Katie has been wanting to learn to cath Kendra. Jenny has been very hesitant about Katie learning to do it so I made an executive decision and let her try. She NAILED it, first time, and afterwards, all on her own, Kendra leaned in and gave Katie a kiss. Then she said “All done cath. Thanks.” As far as I’m concerned that was 2 full sentences as well as a huge feather in Katie’s cap!!! :celebrate

Then she said “All done cath. Thanks.”

Why is Jenny hesitant? You've shown us that Katie is way capable of most anything she wants to do.

Is Katie really almost as tall as Ken??

Actually, Bruce...I do have a pin that says “Lady of the Knight”. I got it when Ken became a Knights Templar many years ago. Do I wear it? Um, NO!!

She is almost as tall as her Grampa and doesn’t mind reminding him of that from time to time. Jenny has had a hard time letting Katie do much at all. She has a bad case of “keep ‘em babies” syndrome. That’s part of the reason Katie loves being here - I not only let her do new things, I practically make her! Want a grilled cheese? Make it. She was telling us on this last trip that she knows Mom needs help, but that Jenny just doesn’t trust her. When the girls were picked up I showed Jen the photos of the cathing and said that Katie is perfectly capable of doing it when she’s busy. “I know, but then I’d have to be right there to help her.” Well, for pity evermore, what’s the difference if you stand there cathing or stand there and watch Katie the first few times? Still the same amount of time, and once Katie learns it perfectly she doesn’t need anybody standing right there anymore. I guess I’m just pushier when it comes to the girls. Nothing says, “But you’re autistic and can’t do this” like never letting Bug even try. We didn’t get the hang of cathing perfectly at first either!

Where’s DD been? I hope all this attention hasn’t upset her...she’s not big on that kind of thing.

12 days and you’re done, Debby??? Cool, because it looks like we’ll be down your way in mid-September!!

I think I should get you a pin that says "Lady of the evening" because I know you can't stay up very late at (k)night!

Introduce Jenny to some of Dr. Temple Grandin's videos. Yep, no one with autism can do a dang thing. I find it sad that Jenny projects her personal insecurities onto Katie. Very glad you are there to give the girl a chance to see what she can do.

DD fell asleep after making 100,000 posts! Such an effort is quite taxing.
