My son bought me an record player several years ago. JUST after I sold nearly all my LPs- needed the $$. The Half price store offered me a piddly 25Cents each. I walked out. Some man heard me and said he would pay much more. I told him the address and said it would take me such and such a time to walk home. I DID not want to ride with him.
When I got home he was already parked in my driveway.

It was broad daylight and my neighbors across the street were home - people used to look out for each other then.I felt good about that.

Told him I would bring the records down, he was at my bedroom door before I got there.
The only thing I had going for me is I can appear appear to be perfectly calm, when I am screaming on the inside. It has served me well on several occasions.

He took nearly all my records for $ 2. each and said I had them stored well, so he didn't need to try any first. Offered me a check, I said I only take cash. Took off to find an automated teller. Paid, left, fine.

A short time later he called and said if he wasn't married he would ask me out. WHAT???

I lied and said I had a boyfriend and wasn't planning to give him up. GEEZ. No wonder I prefer to be a hermit.

Another time some punks in the neighborhood were harassing me - can't remember why but the leader, came up to me and let me know all the things he could do to me. I said
" Go ahead, it takes a pretty BIG man to abuse a an old arthritic lady.Plus it's a felony if you assault a senior citizen." "Your buddies will be embarassed by you." He got a weird look on his face. I offered him a solution.

I told him we could both laugh,shake hands and smile like we actually knew each other. It worked. I don't know what he said to his gang BUT, I locked myself in the house and stayed there. And also had a major crying jag.

Good idea DD, think I'll do that myself. I don't have to be at work until 10 so a nap sounds great, yesterday was exhausting.
