That's the way it use to be here in Texas, you always waved when passing on the road. With so many immigrants moving to Texas, you don't see it as much anymore, like I did as a kid. That's one of the reasons I usedown south, we not only wave back if we have time(before the car gets passed) but we also wave before you waveif thats all it takes to make someones day, go for it

The rural areas here, you'll still see the wave and in small towns but the big cities, forget it. You might get a wave but it will be the "your #1" type wave!Waving works on my rural road here in notoriously 'unfriendly' NJ. Also treating someone courteously while driving (allowing a merge, etc.) sets the example for others. Courtesy is contagious as is abrasiveness. I choose courtesy - it results in endorphin flow.At least that's what I tell the Princess.
Usually I don't but sometimes I have to go to San Antonio, Austin, Houston or Dallas, you know, road trip!I don't do cities.
DW was amazed to see the waving in Southern VA, the rural communities and in Tennessee. Sean you beat me to it... In the DC area folks wave but in the fashion sean suggestsAnother thing folks do here, can be annoying—but is also kind of neat. They see a friend they haven't chatted with in a while and they'll both stop and have a conversation right there in the two lane road. And Wally world is a social gathering place.
