The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Folks, there's definitely something in the air... My cockerels and roosters were just going crazy last night, I mean drawing blood crazy... Today, I'm out on the deck and the humming birds and crows are doing it too. I don't have a clue but this is highly weird behavior.

That's strange! Do you maybe have a change in the weather coming on?

Debby, I thought I'd continue our Germany conversation here... I've traveled all over the country and speak (but not read) pretty good German. Tourist alert! Ordering the wrong beer in the wrong province is something to fight over. Safest simply to say eins beer bitta and just leave it at that. Germans are about their beer as we are about our football teams.

This is where we went one time for dinner (Mom insisted she had to see an "Oompa band", lol):

Unfortunately, her & my dad are strict tea-totalers and would have been highly offended if I'd ordered a beer. Mom didn't realize this was a beer hall (just like she didn't understand a "pub" in London was a bar).

Can't remember where we stayed while we were there, but it was close to Marienplatz. Such a great place to visit!

I'll never forget bringing my SIL and neises out... I picked them up in Belgian... I rented a cottage that would house us all.. DN plugged her hair dryer into a 220 converter and fried it. Didn't understand the whole electric thing... After eating German food for over a week my niece asked for a simple grilled cheese sandwich. I had to explain to the chef how to make it and he was thrilled to deliver it.

It can be a real eye opener visiting other countries for sure! That was one of the best parts about going...learning more about others and seeing how we're both different and the same.

Bet your nieces still remember their trip!

Maybe the poles are shifting!

Yep, it sure does :)

One thing that stands out for me is how nice the local people were. We went in Jan/Feb so tourists weren't swarming the place. People there made us feel really welcome. And almost all spoke English so we weren't totally in the dark :p

I remember an ugly american story... I was visiting Trier. and I showed up without g loves... My hands were freezing... I went into the store looking for gloves and stood behind the ugly american wanting something and not trying... After she left, I was stuck... Couldn't remember the word for gloves. So best I could do was tell the lady I needed cloths for my hands and that they were cold. Of course that was my best German and her response in perfect English was would you like a big pair of gloves for those big hands of yours? I fumbled everything I tried in German, but at least I tried... She was willing to help.

Well, $400 later i have fillings replaced in 2 teeth. Still numb.
Well at least you know they will likely be there as long as you have your teeth. I had all 4 of my fillings replaced probably 35 years ago and they are still good.

Ouch! At least we can't make fun of you for talking funny Cap :hmm
We wouldn't do that to her would we??

About 30 years ago I was in France on business and when done took a train to Zurich to meet my Dad and stepmother who were vacationing in Switzerland and Germany. Every town we stopped in for the night we ordered the local beer. Can't go wrong that way, they were all quite good.

Me too, same trip. Get to add in the ugly canadians too. It happened to be Oktoberfest, we went to a festival. Kinda an ugly german story as well. In several of the tents seats seemed to disappear when we got near them. Ended up in the Lowenbrau tent, it was more international. And after awhile there were back and forth chants of USA!! CANADA!!
:smack
jerks.
