We need a super heavy rain or hard snow right now. The area between Pinedale (where Ken grew up) and Jackson is an inferno. The fire is so intense that any light rain evaporates above it before it can reach the ground. That fire has 800+ personnel working on it, with no signs of containment. The major highway between Pinedale and Jackson is closed. This is the fire nearest to Daniel/Bondurant. There’s another big one just south of Jackson near Afton that is also not contained. Then there’s the Encampment fire near that town and the big fire that crossed the Wyoming/Colorado state line not far from Saratoga and another one on the Utah/Wyoming border south of Evanston. If you’re keeping track, that shows central Wyoming almost surrounded by fires. It’s clear here, not too much smoke in the air, and the Big Horns got a good dusting of snow over the past few days. We don’t have any fires in our area, but the snow was welcomed nonetheless.

So while you’re praying and sending good vibes, put in a word for the firefighters, first responders, and support personnel as well, and those running the many evacuation shelters. They sure need it right now. I gotta say I’d feel better if Ken wasn’t in Saratoga/Rawlins right now.

Wow that is a lot of fires! How scary!! Hope everyone stays safe. When does Ken get back?

Me too Kdogg, I've never been a traveler. That's how I imagined California and all the blond surfer dudes and dudettes.

Yup, exactly how I pictured it lol I have never been.

Never even been West of the Mississippi lol my brother has been all over the world the last couple years and the other one has been places too but not as many.

I've been to Canada and the Bahamas a few times each and that's it. For donestic travel I've been to all New England states, obviously, then New York, Pennsylvania, and Florida, and that's it. Had a layover in Atlanta and New Jersey once each lol

That is a heck of a lot of fire. I know some NZ firefighters were helping with the Californian wildfires and we often send them over to help out in Aussie when there are nasty ones. I'm sending 'stay safe vibes' Kens way :hugs (and the way of all those firefighters - I have nothing but respect for all that they do).

He’s due back tomorrow. Then we pack up and head for 9 days in Cheyenne. Saratoga is just an interstate exit away from Debby and Frankenfoot’s place, too. Folks are getting ash as far away as Laramie. Last report 40 homes were burned down in the Hoback area. Google Wyoming wildfires. And the maps there aren’t even showing the smaller ones. I don’t remember it ever being this bad here. We had one in the Pryors back about 15 years ago and we sat outside under the trees and watched the flames dancing on the ridge and that’s as close as I wanna get.

San Diego county is a bout the size of Ireland. One of the few places in the world that has a Mediterranean climate. Costal its pretty lush because the Ver cold Ocean temp. Moderates the climate. But as you go inland just a few miles it gets drier and on average hotter. Most times only about 20 percent but it can drop to ten to fifteen....

About fifteen miles from the coast we have mountains.... Another thirty and it starts turning into desert. By the time you get to my house its high desert... 3000 feet... No trees... only pink rocks and Chaparal... Chamise Sage Red shank and few others.

scrub oak here and there if there is water close enough to the surface. Then another ten miles and it gets really dry Because the land drops dramatically as you head toward the Imperial Valley.... Some of which is 50 feet below sea level. Summer Temps are 110 .... sometimes more. They pack up their riding horses and bring em to a lodge up here to let em cool off in 90 degrees...

There is NO perminant pasture... With the exception of a few places of about a hundred acres or so.... Green grass.... Sign no need to water.... But even those are drying up.

Water table has dropped a hundred feet During the drought. My well is 450 feet deep. from the pump up I have a column of water about 250 feet. This means my Water column is only 150 feet deep. six inch pipe that means I have approximately 153 gallons of water instead of 255.

Nothing grows unless it can live on what the desert offers because I cant water it.

Thats why I dont garden... even If I can switch to grey water ....
