Metal roofs can be loud. The half of the house that was rebuilt has a standing seam roof on 8" SIPS on the pine ceiling (no attic). That means 3/4" OSB (I think), 8" of rigid foam, another 3/4" OSB and 1" of pine. I figured that 8" of foam would insulate it not only from heat transfer but also noise. Not so much, when it rains you sure know it upstairs. Probably needs an air layer to deaden the sound.

There was a tin roof outside the bedroom window of my childhood home. I still fondly remember the sound of rain on that roof.
Tin roof + rain = good, Tin roof + guineas = bad :lau

I've always thought a tin roof would be kind of cool but then I also worry the sound of rain or stuff falling on it would annoy me. But probably not, I'd probably enjoy hearing the rain. We thought about putting a tin roof on the chicken coop but my dad said it'd be too loud for them.
Rain on a tin roof is better than any sleeping pill! ;)

Wow even with all that insulation it's still that loud!?

Most of my shelters have metal roofs, as does our cabin. No problem.

I sleep too much, need a good wake-up, like a Cocker Spaniel thrown on the bed. Sparkle used to bury her face under my chin. Then swallow a few times - that tickled and woke me up. Actually I called her Sparkle Farts for good reason - silent and deadly. I really loved her except for that part.
