I don't remember Grandma Silver having a sewing machine unless it was in her room. I know she quilted, so maybe it was all by hand.
according to my momma, grandma could look at a dress, go home, cut up a pattern and then sew the dress up, momma handmade quilts, sewed all by hand, i have quilts she made in the cedar chest, have no idea who to pass them down too, son couldn't care less, same for his kids, been thinking of giving them to the nieces and nephews, they would like to have them, or some of them would:idunno

No matter how much I practice I can never get my stitching neat and tidy. :hmm

We have another baby - a little Society finch:

I suspect it's going to be a one and only. Another egg had started to unzip but it looks like the membrane dried over its nostrils. I'd be very pleased if this was the only chick seeing as they are in a cage that's really difficult to catch them out of. It's going to have all its aunts and uncles fussing over it so it's going to be a fat little podge.
they always look so tiny and ugly when first hatched, until they they get some feathers, but they grow so fast and become beautys:jumpy

I am going to learn to quilt someday. It is a dream of mine. My mom made many quilts. I can’t believe no one wants them. So sad!
