yes, the tree trimmers are quite expensive but they do dangerous work, taking trees down isn't easy, we just paid 975. to take the two down closest to the house, the one boy climbed the tree, cut the limbs as he came back down, then they cut everything up and piled it into a pile for husband to do whatever. that was the only person who would come out to give us an estimate, other companies wouldn't even come when they learned they couldn't get the big "cherry picker" into the pasture, i have to admit, the one who did the climbing and cutting was either very brave or crazy. probably both
forgot to say, these two were in the pasture but big enough to hit the house if they fell wrong,

It is fun to watch them work! They do amazing things up in the trees

Good morning everyone

I came home yesterday from Laramie with a touch of that "bug" that's been going around. Hopefully, today goes better.

Was not a great visit with my cousin. She got on a political rant (our views are world's apart) and would not stop for hours. Talking that sort of stuff with family should be banned like it is here on BYC. Trying to tune out stuff only gets a person so far, then you get accused of not listening. I thought pushing the "ignore" button was better than a bloody debate.

Glad to be back, need to catch up with all the BYC happenings (and probably another nap before long ).

Ah. Do they ski at Jay? BTW those weekend/vacation "cabins" are referred to as camps in Vermont. It is what people are referring to when they say "we are going to camp this weekend".

Drywall and in decent shape?? The electricians that did the work on the rebuilt part of the house said they will cut out a strip of drywall when they have to rewire a place. Not hard to put new drywall in, much less expensive than taking it down to the studs.

They call them camps in Nova Scotia too.

The walls are plaster and lathe. It would be extremely difficult to patch with drywall seamlessly. Plus, it appears that the walls are insulated with newspaper, so I may as well address that instead of freezing my butt and having to tear it apart to insulate later. Plumbing and gas fitting will be easier and cheaper doing it this way too. I work with someone who is a framer and drywaller and he has agreed to help. it goes well.

First thing i do when i move in a new place is plant more trees! Here i planted fruit trees.

I've wanted to do that here, but haven't yet. I did plant some honeyberry (haksap) last year, but they're not even knee high yet.

Next year will hopefully be a return to gardening and landscaping. I plan on planting a buckeye, some honeysuckle and blue spruce. I found a cherry bush that can grow in our climate. I think that would be easier than a tree, but chances are the wildlife will get the fruit before I have the chance. I'd love to have McIntosh apple too. What fruit trees do you have?

Built in 1932. Still has knob & tube.
I love the look of plaster walls. I may just put a very thin coating of drywall mud on the whole wall to try and achieve the look.

You can use texture that looks like what you want and or flatten with a spatula
