The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

This is copy and pasted. I had posted it on my Masonic Wive’s site last night but thought you might enjoy it. What an adventure.

“The Lord does work in mysterious ways! Coming home tonight over the Big Horns was a nightmare. Snow on top of nasty ice and pretty good winds. We were creeping along the curves on the downgrades and as we came around a particularly sharp curve we saw the back of a semi where the back of a semi shouldn’t be. There was a small pullout on our side of the road and we stopped. Ken grabbed his super bright flashlight with the strobe and made his way to the cab of the truck. It was rough going, especially in his Grand Lodge uniform pants and dress shoes. The snow had drifted pretty deeply and he had to cross what little fence the truck hadn’t taken out, but he kept floundering through until he reached the cab, where one very happy and relieved truck driver jumped out and enveloped him in a huge bear hug.

In very broken English (the gentleman was from a Middle Eastern nation) he told Ken that he’d been there for over 2 hours and we were the only vehicle that had come up or gone down. The cab of that truck was buried deep into trees, but the driver was unhurt. Ken tried to talk him into coming down the mountain with us, but he was going to stay with his truck. Ken made sure that he had food, water, and the guy was running the truck so it was warm in the cab, and they walked back to our truck. He kept asking Ken if we knew where was to send help, which we assured him we did. I also asked him a couple of times to ride down with us, but he declined. So we resumed our 10 pucker factor ride, creeping down. There is no cell service up there, and not much until you hit Greybull so Ken had told him it would be a couple more hours until help reached him. I had 911 dialed into my phone, ready to hit “send” at the first hint of signal.

But when we were almost all the way down, a car was starting up. Our headlights hit the side of that car and it was a Highway patrolman, heading up to check for anyone stranded up there. So Ken flagged him down and the first thing the trooper asked him was “How far up?” Ken told him what the vehicle was, what the nearest mile marker was, that the driver was uninjured, but that that truck was buried. The next thing the trooper said was, “Hey, it’s the Badgets!” Turns out we’ve known the guy almost since we moved here! So we warned him to be careful up there, that it was nasty slick. I’ll say an extra prayer for Blaine’s safety.

So you see, if Tammy Ross Smith had corrected me snd said the Jobies event was today, not yesterday, we’d probably have stayed home today and prepared for Monday’s trip instead of going. If we’d been further up the mountain and met Blaine on his way up, the chances of all of us being able to stop safely on the steep, super icy grade would have been greatly reduced, instead of us meeting down where it was dry and having time to give him full information. And yes, even without us Blaine would have found the truck, but not likely as long as he was driving uphill, not the way it was off the road and the angle it was at, although he would have seen him on his way back down. And the way it all played out, Blaine was able to know ahead of time the whole situation and able to let dispatch know before he even got to the site what was going on. See? The Lord does work in mysterious ways!!”
No such thing as coincedence....

Ok, went to the orthopedic office. The x-ray looked the same except this time you could see the calcification of the fracture :celebrateso it's repairing nicely. Doc wants me to do therapy....so got that arranged.
Left the office and went to TSC needed a few things. As I was ambiling along, without warning my left hand crutch decided to take a leave of absence. It slipped on the freshly waxed floor and down I went with a hugh crash and thud. Major owiee! Didn't break anything but sure scared the heck outta me. The guy helping carry out my stuff, had a look of terror on his face! (priceless). I just looked at him and said, "Don't worry, I'm not going to sue TSC". Another customer standing there when I fell, just started laughing when I told him wasn't gonna sue! and she actually picked up the other crutch that went flying away.
Got a little scape on my elbow that was bleeding but other than that I was ok!
I will be heavy into the pain pills tonight though, it is hurting more than usual.:barnie
What a Story you have to tell now!

I hope the pain is better tomorrow

It was beautiful, but man, it was treacherous.

And he can have my wheelchair!! I don’t want it anymore!!

I’d have lost the remote!!!

Safely in Rock Springs. Ken already left for his meeting in Green River.

Kelsey, I made a couple of videos for you that I’ll upload this weekend when I have my computer. Today was weird!! Odd storm clouds, and at one point we were driving through heavy snow that was literally coming sideways.....and the sun was shining!! Tried to video that too but don’t know if it came out clear enough to see. Driving 70mph, trying to video out of the car window while the snow was blowing at 45mph wasn’t real effective.

I'd love to see the videos when you get them uploaded! That sure sounds like some weird weather!! We've had some weird weather lately too. A couple weeks ago it was raining and even tornado watch in some spots so I was driving around trying to see if I could see any tornadoes (I know, I know... Luckily nada and no starts of any either) but the sky was really yellow in spots and also before that, I went way south and all of a sudden when I got far enough south it just opened up into a downpour, was kinda scary. I got off the highway. But then coming north it was over. Of course this was also several minutes later by then so probably was just a few minute thing anyway. But then it started again somewhat. Not as bad as when I was going south but odd the start and stop and heard thunder too. Anyway, then when I got back north near my house and went westish to some other towns that's where some of the yellow spots were and weird weather. One side of highway was still somewhat raining, other side was sunny. So much so that a rainbow popped up on one side of the highway and at home, there was even a gorgeous double rainbow over the river! I didn't see it cause I wasn't home but I wish. And just the other day, was weird too. Actually all weekend. It's been windy and rainy Friday and Saturday mostly, yesterday was sunny, and today was cloudy and misting. Anyway, I tried to let the chickens out Saturday and they wouldn't come out! It had been cloudy but broke and was sunny so I figured I would let them out. They were actually in the coop and even with the run door wide open, wouldn't come down. So I opened the back door up and got a piece of plastic pipe and kind of herded them down the ramp aha well, even once in the run, run door wide open, they would not come out. Wouldn't even leave right in front of the ramp and some even tried going back in. I thought this is really weird because they NEVER refuse to come out. And this was before the hawk incident yesterday. BUT. I figured I better just trust them and there must be SOMETHING wrong so I just gave up and shut the run door. And also by this point I had noticed it had gotten cloudy again all of a sudden. And btw, by cloudy, before and after the sun, I mean whole sky grey, not just a few clouds. I thought it was really weird the clouds were basically gone then came back. But not that unusual, I just thought, "Huh. Interesting." Especially because it was slightly windy. Well guess what? Moments after I got into the house the sky broke open and it started downpouring. Those chickens are smarter than they look. And that's also why I just gave up and left them in because it did look like really weird weather and I figure animals must have some sort of weather senses or instincts and that's why they were acting so weird. And they were right. So between that and the hawk thing yesterday, I'm now convinced they're geniuses. :lau

I know what you mean about the "sideways" stuff - weird - can have 2 inches high at one point and 3 ft. high at another. Quite an adventure to shovel once things slow down.

Weather is so weird.

An ya'll think I'm accident prone!!!?

Driving 70mph, trying to video out of the car window while the snow was blowing at 45mph wasn’t real effective.

:idunno:gig

:lau

Oh, I didn’t word that very well, did I? Of course Ken was driving, not me! :lau

Thank goodness.

Ok, I'll give ya a pass. :hugs

Me too.

A better and way more effective suit would be one of those sumo wrestlers suits! Then I'd just bounce back up! :gig

Blooie, that is an amazing story and that guy must've been so relieved to see you guys. It would be scary and lonely being lost in the snow.

Glad you've survived your latest escapade Sean! Get some extra grippy shoes for those feet of yours (Sour's idea made me laugh though).

I've been a bit lax on the 'like' - ing but I read fast and on my phone hitting the 'like' button takes forever for it to decide what to do (by which point I've hit it again which makes it 'unlike'). :barnie

Kelsey, we like your novels. Did you see that video on one of the forums here (I must find the link) of the family of Maremma sheep dogs protecting their flock of chickens? I'd never seen them in action so it was really interesting.
