The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

I think you're right. Yesterday, I showed him how I want him to deal with the pigs. Basically herd them back to their pen. I led him around behind the pig and then let him follow the pig until it went under the fence back into it's pen and then lots of rubbing and loving.
If hes got some Aussie in him that should spark those genes.... Aussies are incredible learners... good and bad... but fill those spaces with good and I becha some of the bad will subside...

My half Aussie Rosie was very wanting to please.... beyond my talents to train.

If you can't tell, I have no clue what I'm doing here... Just trying to teach him that the pigs aren't a threat.
A big one to teach is No or Leave it... I always use the softest voice that gets the job done... Dogs have great hearing but you have to spark that desire to please you.

Take him every where with you when you go out to do chores.... I feed my dogs inside so I know how much they have eaten...

Its going to take some time to get him to adjust to his new home and get over grieving for his old home and routine.

also I never learned how to treat as a reward... just a good doggie and a rub... I too know only my own dogs...

I have an actual chicken question for you all...(shocking, I know )

I read where some give their chickens corn during the winter with the thought it makes the birds warmer. Is there any science/fact behind that? Our winters get so cold but the chickens seem to be doing ok. If it would make them more comfortable, I'd do it but is it true about corn or is that just folk lore?
