:) amen to not knowing, if we did, we really would need to be wrapped in bubble wrap
just came back in from feeding and watering, tried to move a couple of young cockerels into the cage with two cochin hens and a cochin rooster, that didn't work big time, the rooster was fine with the young ones but the hens, did not realize how nasty they can be, had to take the cockerels out and put them back into the crowded cage, guess they need a real big run so they can out run the hens:confused:

Do you free range any Sharron? If you do, maybe try putting them all out at once.

yes, in the spring and summer, but right now they're all in cages cause we were going to take them to a friends while we're gone, it would be so much easier if gd would take care of them, that way they would have half of the barn to run, but gd let something kill all but 2 of chickens last winter, she just didn't care that something was picking them off one or a couple at a time so this time a friend said he had room and it wasn't much trouble since he has to go out to take care of his anyway (i'm paying him and buying the feed) (but then i did the gd too) husband and i never ask anyone to do anything without paying, thats sometimes a good way to lose friends, in an emergency, yes but not for us going to fl for 4 or 5 months, thats taking advantage :)

should add that gd doesn't really like any animals but cats and house pets, she not a outside person altho her father bought her a goat kid and she has to come out and feed it, not sure how long the little goat would last if her father didn't buy himself one too and he feeds one meal a day, takes them for walks in the pasture and cleans the stall.(when he's not working

That's really helpful to have an experienced poultry-keeper to take care of them while you're going to be gone. Less for you to be worried about.

Its absolutely brutally cold out this morning. I just went to check on the chickens and fed my outdoor kitties and took this crazy sunrise picture and now am back in the house. It looks like a huge fire with a rainbow shooting out the top. I can’t capture how cool it is.
