The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

There’s our Sean! We were worried!!! You were probably just hours away from a Bruce phone call.....I would have had no problem siccing him after you to find out what's going on. Hope you’re now “over the weather”. (Katie euphemism - she figured that if “under the weather” means “sick” then it stands to reason you’d be “over the weather” when you’re feeling better - 6 year old logic.)

Jae, you live in a paradise!! Love all your photos, and that perky little Fantail made me grin!!

@sharron - no offense to your bil, but the only good thing I can say about Mississippi is that the same rads that led in, led out! Only place I’ve ever lived where I sat at a stoplight, laid my head on the steering wheel and cried because I was so miserably hot! My show dogs blew coat and it never fully came back until we moved up to South Dakota. They didn’t need that much coat living down there. And the smell of the pogie and paper plants on a 100+ degree day with 90% humidity is the stuff of nightmares! Giant cockroaches so big you could see their antennae before you saw them when they appeared over the edge of a cabinet, fiddler crabs scurrying across the living room floor, Kamakazi mockingbirds divebombing us when we’d go outside. I know every place has its pluses and minuses, and there were things we enjoyed.....waking Kenny up at midnight to go to the Biloxi Pier to do some shrimping, seeing a thunderstorm roll in over the Gulf.....but not enough to negate being so uncomfortable. I learned the language pretty well. Can’t speak it but did get to the point where I could understand it. And every sentence is a question. “We decided to go to the beach? So we packed up some sodas and a blanket? Then we stopped by Cetus Earl’s place and carried him to the beach with us?” Glad hubby is feeling better. Ride herd on him, though. Men never seem to realize that taking it easy isn’t a crime against nature!

I’m so glad that I’m not the only one with more fabric sensitivities than food allergies! My derm says it’s because my skin is exceptionally dry so the skin cells don’t lay flat. It’s caused by my Sjogren’s Syndrome so we know what it is. Not a soap on the market that I haven’t tried or a lotion either. It just is what it is. The dry mouth is treated with Biotene, the dry eyes with Retayne, but the skin has defeated us so far. I just got a bar of Sally Sunshine’s goat milk soap, so I’m anxious to try it when it comes. I tried the olive oil soap. It did exactly as I expected....left me feeling dirty and greasy, like a badly dressed salad. We keep an eye out for signs of Sjogren’s in my connective tissues and joints, but so far it seems to just be symptomatic in a couple of places. Sure makes me picky about what touches my skin, though!

Debby, you need to make a trip to Cabela’s! I buy my flannel lined jeans there. Come on up and I’ll take ya with me!

Ah, Christmas! We’ll spend Christmas Eve at Tammy’s new house. You should see how beautifully decorated she has it! It’ll just be Ken and me, Kenny, Jenny, Katie, Kendra, Evan and Tam. That is, unless Little Diane and Pete decide to join us again. I usually decorate to the rafters, but not this year. I don’t trust Fee with a Christmas tree in this little house! It takes forever for a signal in her brain to reach the rest of her. Her brain says, “Stand up.” Then that rattles around in there for a few minutes while the signal strengthens. After that her front legs start moving so they can prepare to change positions. That signal, however, takes forever to reach her back end. Finally everything is properly warned of the change and, in slo mo, she begins to stand up. But her tail.....poor girl never knows what to do with that. She is the epitome of clumsy in a giant package. I’ll try to get it on video....it’s hilarious! The thought of putting up a tree and trying to deal with her clumsiness at the same time is intimidating! :lau

Christmas Day everyone comes over here for “Pie Day”. Funny how important that relatively new tradition has become to everyone. We just love it!

Yeah, I'm almost 'over the weather'
You have probably already tried this but have to ask....have you tried Bee balm, smearing or slathering it all over? :idunno

Oh how I understand Fee's mobility issues. My Great Danes were the same way, except they understood they were too big to navigate around somethings and would just stand in front of whatever was blocking the way until you'd move it. And if that wasn't possible, then the dreaded, 'watch out I'm backing up' :gigthe look on their faces was priceless, when they found themselves in their precieved dire circumstances.

I am similar but not nearly as bad. I hate tags on shirts (but some are softer and not as bad) and I hate lacey materials (why does practically every piece of girls clothes have a piece of that stuff somewhere?) Or some sweaters and stuff. Actually, I mostly just hate wearing girly stuff in general. And finding a comfortable, well fitting bra is a real pain. But if I must wear girly clothes I do but much prefer to wear t shirts.

Blooie, your mention of the way people talk reminded me of when my sister's family moved from Colorado to Alabama. They were confused for weeks...my sister didn't understand what they were talking about at the grocery store when they asked her if she wanted a tote. And my poor nephew was lost trying to figure out why someone would need their ma to carry them to the store. And the accent on top of it all made for some hilarious stories.

Gotta run. DH is up in Casper and needs my "expert" :gigadvice on lighting for the flip house. I'll be back tomorrow so you all behave. And if you can't behave, at least don't get caught!

Later :frow

That's a hard question for someone that hasn't bought any presents, sent any cards, or put up a Christmas tree. View attachment 1611592
I haven’t sent any cards and only have a couple gift certificates for the boys. I can’t believe my cats are not bothering my tree. Hubby made this wood base and they arent bothering it at all. I hope i didn’t just jinx myself:gig

All of the dogs I’ve owned or trained, and not one ever did this - until Fee! She has to have her blankie. If she’s not sleeping with it, she’s dragging it around like Linus. When she goes into her crate, she takes it with her and either partially covers herself or scrunches it up and holds it, sometimes using it as a pillow. Last night when we crated her for the night (gotta LOVE crate trained dogs, even if hers takes up the whole living room), Ken tossed her blankie on top of her back. She grabbed the end of it off her back and SHE did this!

Today she grabbed her blankie, dragged it into her crate and made a huge production out of getting it just where she wanted it. Then she settled in for a nap.

Just in case anyone is wondering how big she is now, here ya go...last photo of her today, I promise!

That's cool Blooie. My Great Dane did the same thing....had to have his blanket...so much so that when he died, I wrapped him in his blanket when I buried him. Digging that grave by hand is a whole nuther story.
