The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

We talked to someone who had moved into a new subdivision where all the houses had heat pumps. Their power bills were about $1200 a month to heat their homes (and that would've just been to a minimally warm temperature, not the toasty temperature our house usually is with our fire going).
What is the price of electricity, average temps through the winter and WTH, do they have NO insulation in those houses?

I got my MRI results, my spine is a mess. Pretty torn up about it because i really need to give up heavy lifting. So how do i deal with feed?
Um, a nice big bin with an auger in the back of the PU? Run the feed right to the storage cans.

Really sorry to hear about your spine. You are far too busy a person to sit still.

I'm sooo looking forward to indoor plumbing! 2 years going in an outhouse or bucket is more than enough for this gal.
I would think so!

I briefly had a greyhound. One day he was standing by the coffee table. He wagged his tail and cleanly sliced a water glass in half.
That is one way to keep a decluttered home. Put it away or throw it away after the dogs tail sends it into the wall at 50 MPH.

I don't know what I'm looking forward to the most. A flush toilet, being able to take a shower, or wash my hands even, or having clean dishes, or an actual stove to cook with.
All of the above!

One of my sisters friends come over to me and got the recipe. She thought they were from a bakery.
They were, the DMC bakery!

@rjohns39 hey Bob, congratulations on your new Spirit badge, wtg! :woot
X’s 2, congrats Bob!
And it's snowing like no one's business now.

Isn't that special
It’s supposed to be be freezing rain here tonight. Hubby and I both have to bring our vehicles in for oil changes in the morning. I hope it stays away:fl

Only bakery I’ll ever have:lol:

Ugh...hate to hear that. Gotta bundle up good to take care of the critters.
If it was me,I'd eat a cookie to feel better first!:hugs

Hey, guess what I did? Yep, had a cookie :gig Keeping chickens was a lot easier in Florida than it has been in Wyoming (but the poo is easier to clean up in WY, it's so dry here the poo dries up like little rocks).

Keeping my fingers crossed you don't get that freezing rain DMC :fl

And never say never re: the bakery! Who knows, could happen (and you'd be great at it).

We go through cycles here. Currently we are having a big storm and it is hard to take care of the chickens during that.

In the summer we have a lot of triple digit days that is hard on the chickens and I have to keep up with water and mist systems. Overall it is not that bad since we do not have to deal with freezing here

Eat one for me! I'm too full from dinner.

Being a new subdivision they would (should) be fully insulated and have double glazing. That was down in Hamilton where the winter temps would probably get down to just below freezing overnight maybe rising to around 8-10C at most (so around 46-50F) during the day. It’s wet and windy over winter so it can feel colder than it is.

According to our last bill (which covers a 29 day period) we pay a fixed line charge of $62.93 (which is $42.43USD using today’s exchange rate) and we pay 19.64c per unit and we used 501 units totalling $98.40 ($66.35USD). We are pretty conservative with our power usage but I’m assuming we get charged quite a bit. It may be even more expensive in Hamilton depending if it’s a different lines company. I know up North it will be more which is why we are considering solar. We’ll definitely have a fireplace with a wet back too.
