The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

We have twin angels ? Mine are now spending much of their time protecting my grand children.

@bruceha2000 , not too fast anymore and surely not too 'swift'. I will take all the help I can get.

Watching out over the grands is a good place for them. No grandkids here, so mine is stuck with me

When Bruce & I were posting about the barn bunny and the garage cat, I got to wondering about Scardey (did I spell that right?). How's she doing this winter Sour?

Scaredy is good. No, she is in excellent condition. Found out that she is 'sharing' her food with an opossum. Saw some strange melted in tracks across the deck this morning. When I started my slush clean up I found several distinct opossum tracks by her food dish. Last winter there was a raccoon that would eat from the bird feeders every night, and there would be an opossum on the ground scrounging up anything that fell. Haven't seen them so far this winter.

Does the opossum concern you? Don't know if Scaredy would fight with him or not but what about your birds?

I have no birds. :hit 5 years ago we took a three week trip for our 50th anniversary. I had already gotten rid of most of my birds because of the hawks. At this point I got rid of the rest. I miss them.

I never had a problem with mammalian predators in my coops/pens/lofts as everything was hardware cloth. Free ranged birds were occasionally attacked by fox and once a very nice Labrador retriever who killed over 30 bantams. He was a second time offender, and the dog warden requested that I put in a complaint against the owners as an attempt to keep him from getting shot - he really was a nice dog. Owners were tools.

I once left the bobs on one section of my loft open over night hoping that birds would return from an overfly. A GHO entered the loft and killed several birds. Basically I had few predator occurrences other than the daily massacre of my birds by Cooper's hawks when birds were flown. :barnie

When it comes to 'fight or flight', Scaredy utilizes flight. She engages with nothing not even the occasional feral that comes to share her food. This is a good thing in an area where rabies is endemic.

i went to a dentist first, had to find one down here, vets tech told me hers so thats where i went, had to go on the island and traffic was bumper to bumper(i hate going on the island anymore) at least she gave me antibiotics, been taking them since last thurs., this is the first day that the pain hasn't been really bad, by the time i get finished with the antibiotics, infection should be gone by then, have a appt with a specialist who only does root canals, believe me cap when i say that altho i'm scared of dentist(like most people) i will even hand him the tools he needs just to get rid of this pain.
this capped tooth has only been capped for a year now , specialist will cost me around $1,500, then will have to go back to dentist for her to seal up the hole in the cap, but at least i won't have to pay another cap bill
as tight as i am it will be worth it to finally have no more pain:celebrate
I always insist on nitrous oxide, laughing gas. I am terrified of dentists. It's the only way I can get any work done. Right now I need a root canal and reconstruction, but my BP is high and nobody will do it.

when i called to make the appt. lady did ask me about whether i wanted the nitrous oxide or the shot, i took the shot hoping that it would go quicker, i just want it done and over with
while sitting in the chain and kara(home dentist) is working on my teeth, i have to keep telling myself, relax, it soon will be over, i tend to stiffen up more and more as she works. getting to this dentist is almost as bad as hurting, we have to go across choctaw bay and turn toward destin instead of panama city and then go 12 and a half miles, almost to destin , bad, bad traffic, makes me want to pick up a cigarette and start smoking again:oops:

That bunny in your barn sounds like the cat in our garage.
Bunny isn't in the barn, it is a wild outside rabbit. A couple of summers ago we had a new baby bunny show up in the yard about every 3 weeks. Then the next year no rabbits at all. Saw one fall of 2017 so I bought a couple of bags of date expired rabbit food at the farm and yard store, $4 for both. Working through the second one now.

I made a tunnel with a short piece of metal roofing to keep snow and rain out near the little barn and put an old metal dish in there figuring the rabbit had a better chance of living through the winter if it always had food. Didn't see any babies last summer but there is again a lone rabbit.

I see tracks all around the little barn and the swimming pool which is up by the house and in front of the big barn. I think it also goes across the road. Maybe it will have a mate this year and there will be more baby bunnies.

Home. Dead tired, but home. Going to take a nap while Ken, Kenny, and Kenny watch the Saints' game. Katie's been a Saints fan since I can remember! She DOES watch the game and she DOES understand it. She can name the players, yell at the refs, and pick up on the small stuff like a pro. She calls all the stats that the announcers spew out as "fill time". She says it's "useless drivel that tries to impress people with how smart the announcers are and make sure there's no dead air time." That's my girl!
